The problem with being a full time Guardian was that it didn’t leave any time to get a real job. Back home, this wasn’t a problem, since being a Guardian itself was a job. Here, however, there were no funds for Guardians, no Court and no infrastructure. It didn’t mean that Rose was going to stop protecting Lissa, Christian, Adrian or even Tatiana as much as she could, however. It just meant that she couldn’t bring in any extra income when they needed it. Dimitri managed to have a job and be a Guardian and be on the Vampire Task Force, but that was because he was Dimitri, and Rose was pretty sure he didn’t sleep more than two hours a night. It was what made him Dimitri, and what she loved about him. But she needed to contribute now that they weren’t in the Tower, and she just didn’t know what. Just out of curiosity, during one of her rare downtimes, she decided to take a look at job postings to see what was even out there. She was parked in Starbucks now, going over posts on her Stark phone, but the text was awfully small on the screen. *** Logan hadn’t been paying much attention on the job search. His life had been filled with enough drama as of late. And while he had contemplated working at a bar, he wondered who would let a nineteen year old take a job. And Logan didn’t know if that was the best thing to be honest. For now, he decided to indulge in some overpriced coffee at Starbucks. There was no way he would apply there, but it would help him to clear his mind. And free wifi was a nice perk as well. But maybe it would help for him to have a social life while he was stuck here in this town. *** It was a busy day, though, and it just so happened that the only open seat was at Rose's table. There was plenty of room there; she only had her drink on the table, and leaning back and scrolling through her phone. *** Well, speak of the Devil. Logan couldn't sit at a table by himself and brood. Not that it was his inital plan, but maybe socialization was in order as he headed over to the semi-vacant table and cleared his throat. "Is this seat taken?" *** "Huh?" Rose looked up absently and then realized the seating situation. The guy asking her about the seat at her table seemed harmless enough, so she nodded and nudged out the chair with her foot. "Yeah, sure, go ahead. Actually, while you're up, can you grab me a paper?" She nodded at the complimentary newspaper at the stand. "Reading job postings on this screen is a bitch." *** "Sure," Logan told her after she nudged out the chair. The least he could do was get her a newspaper as he headed over and picked up a copy or two. Before tossing it down on the table. "Though tell me about it, I haven't had much luck with the job market myself." *** "Yeah? What're you looking for?" Rose asked archly. "Because you're probably ahead of me on the job hunting front. Not many places want to hire someone with no job experience outside of vampire protection." She reached out and picked up one of the papers and opened it to the classifieds. "Oh look. Some law firm is hiring a clerk. Needs one to two years experience." Not that she'd apply even if she did have the experience. She'd die of boredom. *** "Just anything that will hire me. But I doubt that, I'm only nineteen with one year of college back home," he told her as he looked at the classifieds. Listening to the one Rose mentioned. "You'd have to have no life to work there." "The other hangup, they all want a degree. 'Bachelors in Business Management,' pass." *** "On the other hand, Starbucks is hiring," Rose said, nodding to the sign on the counter. "Bet they require experience too. Coffee-making experience, not Strigoi-killing experience." *** "Probably, I bet you the job is to die for," he commented, even if Logan had no clue what a Strigoi was. "Oh, what about this one? Must be open to constructive criticism. Probably means the boss is a dick." *** Rose snickered. She liked this guy; he had a sense of humour that was similar to hers. “Yeah, that would not be good for me. I have a thing about authority figures who are idiots.” She tossed down the paper, no longer wanting to even peruse for possibilities. “Anyway, I got too much going on for a job.” *** "I know, not for me either," he said with a laugh, "I'd rather stick it to the man." This was definitely a good friend to say the least. "Understandable," he said, "I need to hunt for one given everything, though I don't know if I caught your name." *** “Oh. Yeah. Rose.” She didn’t offer a hand, but she did give him a casual wave. “What’s your name, Tall, Blond and Rebellious?” *** "Well it's nice to meet you, Rose," Logan really wasn't one to shake hands so a wave was good enough. "Logan. Though Tall, Blonde and Rebellious does sound like a nice nickname to say the least." *** “You can put it on your resume,” Rose joked, and grinned at him. “Although that’s more likely to get you porn jobs.” *** “I’m sure that given my luck the porn industry would want two to three years experience,” Logan said teasingly. It was possible given this economy. *** Rose smirked. "I would expect the porn industry to go with size rather than experience." Her gaze dropped to the table, where his legs were tucked under. "You'd have to decide if you have the right qualifications." *** "Darn and here I was hoping you could provide a second opinion," he said with a smirk. The porn industry Logan wouldn't go into, but he couldn't help the banter. *** That drew an outright laugh from Rose. Yeah, she liked this guy. She didn't have any interest in seeing his junk, but he was fun. "Oh, my opinions make guys cry," she told him, smirking back. *** Logan wasn't asking for anyone to see his junk, but the witty quip helped. He liked bantering and the sense of humor helped. "At least you're honest. Poor guys, can't handle the truth," Logan admitted. Or all these guys had tiny dicks. *** "Most can't," Rose said with a laugh. She finished up her coffee, then glanced at the time. She'd better check on Dimitri. With four Moroi around and only two Dhampirs, their time was extremely limited. "I better go. But good luck with the job hunt." *** Logan had to laugh at that. With that said, he finished his own coffee. He had plenty to do with a job hunt and he didn't want to be unemployed for too long. "Thanks. Hopefully I'll see you around." |
