"I'm not going to kill you," Grant snapped, irrationally irritated at the fact that she might believe he would. Of course it was a stupid thing to say to her from any intelligence perspective and his Specialist training was yelling at him that this entire situation was past any possibility that he might be able to gain access to the data by any emotional connection. He knew it, and he still couldn't have her believe that she was in danger from him.
"I would never hurt you, Skye," he tried again. "And I don't want you to get hurt. I need that dat-"
"Time's up."
Ward turned his head around to see Peterson standing there, eyes boring into him and he glared back at the soldier.
"I'm not finished here," he said, putting every ounce of command into his voice.
"Yes, you are," Peterson countermanded that statement. "Garrett says it's my turn."
Ward tightened his jaw and stepped back, furious, but he knew that Peterson had the means to make it happen. The best thing he could do at the moment was to step back and let Skye see that perhaps she ought to have listened to him.
