Sarissa wouldn't have thought it when she'd first arrived, but she was enjoying her stay in this alternative New York. There were no Sidhe Courts here, which meant she wasn't in danger from her mother's enemies or anyone who didn't like the idea of Mab's daughter as the new Summer Lady. Yes, she missed her mother, but that would have happened anyway. Now that she belonged to Summer, she would have been prohibited from seeing her mother. At least here she was free from her duties to Summer. But now Fix was here. Fix, who had to serve her even though he probably hated her. She could understand that. After all, she was the daughter of the enemy, and her sister had killed his true love. Sarissa didn't want his service, though. She just wanted to live her life, which was something she'd never been able to do if she could convince him of that, they could both go their separate ways and not deal with each other. It was what she'd invited him to her apartment to discuss. *** Fix was still trying to comprehend the whole fictitious thing but he knew that fiction or not, he still had his duties while he was in new york and that meant protecting the Summer Lady. He was the Summer Knight after all. And he even though he was still trying to cope over Lily’s death. And yet Sarissa called him up to her apartment. Fix knew that he needed to serve regardless, so he headed over to her place and knocked. Being fully prepared to serve to every whim. *** Sarissa opened the door shortly after and offered him a warm, if uncertain, smile. She didn't know how this was going to go, but it couldn't hurt to be polite and non-threatening. It had helped her survive all those centuries amongst the winter fae. "Sir Knight," she greeted. "Come in. Would you like anything to drink?" *** Fix was uncertain himself. Then again this whole place had an air of uncertainty. But he would have to adapt somehow. "I should be asking you that, m'lady," Fix said when it came to her offer to have something to drink. "Since I should be the one to tend to your whims." *** "Seeing as it's my home, it would be remiss of me not to offer," Sarissa said wryly. This was still very awkward, but it helped a little that he wasn't outright hostile to her. She wasn't sure how he was going to approach this. "Besides, you are a Knight, not a servant. I would not ask you to do such a menial task." She took a deep breath. Now that they were on the topic, why not just go right into it? "In fact, I would not be asking you to do any task. There is no Summer Court here. I do not expect you to be at my service." *** "True," he should've been appreciative of her offer. But it was still something that Fix felt he should've done. Since Sarissa was the Summer Queen after all. And yet the fact that Sarissa told him that she did not need him for anything. "Summer Court or not, it is my duty to be at your service," he told Sarissa. Even if he was a ficticious character after all. *** Sarissa closed the door behind him, just to give them their privacy, and gave him a bittersweet smile. "I know it is your duty," she said gently. "I also know I am not the one you wish you were serving. For what it's worth, I'm sorry for your loss. I will not add insult to injury by having you serve me." *** "I am supposed to serve the Summer Queen, which you are," Fix pointed out, his heart aching still over the recent loss. "I know no other obligation. Or how else to transistion to this strange and foreign place. If you wish for me to not serve you, then I shall respect just that." *** "The issue is not what I want," Sarissa returned. "Can you truly, wholeheartedly serve me given that I am the sister of your true love's killer?" It was a harsh assessment of herself, but she needed to be brutal at the moment. She knew that her duty to Summer meant accepting the aid of her Knight, but she wasn't going to do it if he had any qualms. *** Fix pondered this for a moment as the silence filled the air. He always took being the Summer Knight seriously and he needed this brutality for now. And yet, he needed to move on. It was the same mindset he needed to have if he was back home. "I can," Fix told her. He'd move on from Lily given time. And him serving the new Summer Queen would help him with that. *** Sarissa waited patiently for his answer. She knew how important it was to both of them, and she wanted to give him the time to think over the matter. Upon his reply, she nodded, still reserved. She didn't think he was lying, because they were both incapable of telling lies, but what he thought to be the truth could be very different than what really was the truth. She didn't want to dismiss what he said, though. For him to be able to serve her despite how she'd come to the role was significant. "I'm glad. And in that case, I have your first task: I wish you to speak to a counsellor of your recent loss. You don't have to tell her anything you don't want to, but I think it will benefit you." *** Fix would not lie, but he did have reservations. He knew that he could serve her, even if his heart would be heavy given Lily's death. "I shall do just that m'lady," Fix told Sarissa, "is there anything else that you wish for me to do?" *** "Just one," she told him with a smile. Although he'd assured her that he was ready to serve her, she didn't plan on taking advantage if it. "Well, two," she amended. "Sit down, and tell me what you want to drink." *** |
