Who: Kitty Pryde and Johnny Storm

What: Kitty loafs around Johnny’s apartment, telling bad jokes.
Rating: Medium, for bad puns and they might reach obnoxious levels of flirting.

Kitty sat on Johnny’s couch, with her legs crossed and a small container of fried rice resting on her knee. With chopsticks in hand, she carefully picked through the container for those little baby corns. She loved those baby corns.

It wasn’t a half hour ago that she showed up at his apartment and invited herself in for dinner-- she had her hands full of Chinese food, so he’d be dumb to turn her away. Since they started to be friends with benefits, Kitty tried to make sure she held up the “friend” part of the bargain.

“Okay, don’t stop me if you’ve heard this one… Two radio antennae got married. the wedding was okay but the reception was great”

Johnny grinned at her, tilting his head just so. It was a trick he'd learned early on made girls blush. Add a little eyebrow in, and yeah. The best part, Kitty would give as good as she got. "Yeah, but what kind of shoes do sneakers wear?"

He balanced a pea on the end of his chopsticks, then flicked it at her, landing more or less where he was aiming, on her cheek close to her lips. "Sneakers."

Kitty attempted to catch the pea in her mouth and failed. She burst out laughing at the combination pea-shooting and joke.

"Nice shot, loser." She stuck her tongue out at him and blew.

She tilted her head back and tried to think of another joke. She was also trying to distract herself from the fact that she felt so content. It was kind of scary to feel so good around Johnny. She had figured she wouldn't be feeling anything ever again, being stuck in that rocket.

"Hey, not my fault that the prettiest girl in the room smiled at me," Johnny said. It was over the top and he knew it -- and he meant it. Kitty was, well. She was special. A female friend who provided the sensible balance that he needed in his life, and which had been Sue's job. But Kitty was better than a sister, obviously, and in so many ways. Only she maybe wasn't so sensible as Sue, and that was okay, because hell if Sue couldn't be boring at times.

But then Kitty turned up quiet, and Johnny found himself studying her. "Hey. Penny for your thoughts."

Kitty literally shook the thought away. She shook her head and let out a big breath like a horse. "Nah, it's nothing, it's stupid. Just." She didn't want to get into a sob story, but maybe she should tell him? Yeah.

"Before I got here, I was trapped in a giant bullet. We-- the X-Men were dealing with some alien shit. The bullet was aimed at Earth, but I was able to phase it through. I couldn't get out of it... and I couldn't stop it. So I kind of thought my life was over." She laughed, a little nervously, "Didn't think I'd be sitting on Johnny Storm's couch."

Johnny found himself staring at the tv, showing some show that he'd muted when she came in. He couldn't even say what it was, probably CSI Miami or LA or whatever the hell city they were in now. So that was what Kitty had to go back to. Pretty much certain death, alone after saving the earth.

"Don't tell me you thought you'd be sitting on Wolverine's couch. Or, like, Cap's," he said, making a weak attempt at humor, trying to lighten things a little. Something. "I'd be hurt, you know. I got the best couch going."

He leaned forward to put his food on the coffeetable before sitting back and gesturing for her to come closer, to settle in next to him. "That's... well, that's fucked that you were going to... die. But you're not. You're here." He sighed, feeling that he was terrible at this shit.

"Possibly Wolverine, we got way back, him and me." She put her own food down on the coffee table and snuggled in close to him. Kitty laid her head on his chest and let everything slow down. Listen to the heartbeat of another person for a change. Find comfort in another person.

"Rachel says I eventually get out. Eventually. Real comforting. Sorry, I didn't mean to drag you down, Johnny."

"Fuck. Wolverine," Johnny snorted -- entirely jokingly. "What's he got that I don't? Except those claws." He wrapped his arms around her, kissed the top of her head. In his head, friends with benefits didn't mean that affection was off-limits when sex wasn't involved. Of course, he didn't know what it meant to others.

"Eventually's better than never," he pointed out. "Did she say how long eventually was?" He turned his head so he could try to push her hair out of the way. "Nobody drags me down, Kitty. Did I tell you that Sue died? There at the end, Doom killed her, and then the Silver Surfer brought her back, and I swear to God they were the longest minutes of my life."

The rest of it was still a blur to him, making the exact order fuzzy. All he knew was that just before he was pulled here, he'd hugged Ben. Ben. What the hell.

	The hug and kiss were welcomed by Kitty. Physical affection wasn't just something for the bedroom. Especially since she was talking about being marooned in a rocket, away from all human contact. She looked distressed at the mention of Sue's death but then smiled wide, "No one could keep Sue Storm dead, dude." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	She broke the kiss to answer him, "Basically the same stuff. Teaching the little baby X-Men was the only way I could repay everything Xavier's did for me." Thinking about Xavier's made her think about Piotr, and she suddenly felt guilty. She untangled herself from Johnny and reached out for her food. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"It's hard to think of any of the X-Men as kids," Johnny admitted. "Do you think that there's a dimension where the X-Men are all kids? I mean, there's one where Iron Man is a kid, so it's not inconceivable."

Johnny blinked, a little confused when she pulled away suddenly. He didn't follow her, though, stayed where he was and watched her. "What would you do if you didn't feel like you had to teach?"

Between bites of fried rice, Kitty answered him. "I don't know, my life was always X-Men, since I was thirteen. I guess if I didn't get into the superhero life, I could have been a ballet dancer. How about you?"

She wiped the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand and quickly added, "Not if you would have been a dancer, but what you would have been doing if you weren't a superhero."
