I like to think that Ichabod and I helped out with this.

Seems like the simpler solution would be strict rules and codes regarding the hours allowed for the horses to work, the requirements towards housing and diet and routine checks. Now the environmentalists are going to attack over the increase of pollution.

Or, honestly, people could rent a bike or walk the damn thing. But that makes sense all around.

I think it was more of a novelty thing that tourists did, not anything New Yorkers do so it won't have much of an impact except on the jerks who hurt those animals.

It depends, really. Special occasions or maybe when you've got family visiting. Those are the only times I remember ever using them, and those are only a grand total of three.

It's unfortunate for the drivers who will lose their jobs, though I've lived here long enough to know that it won't be as quick and problem free as the mayor wants it to be.

New York can always use more cab drivers.

No, I'm talking about the literal pain in my neck from sleeping the way I did.

Give it a few days and I'm sure you'll conquer that as well.

Pretty much. We'd have to find someone who has a stable, though. Not many places in the city to keep them.

After the first horse, sure. Knew we'd get caught pretty shortly after so we had to hurry to the second horse.

I commend Mayor de Blasio for, at the very least, acknowledging that putting any life in such grave danger is worth a second look. From Abb research, it seems to have taken quite long enough. However grave and inhumane I find the actions of these carriage drivers, I think perhaps the Mayor's comments are meant to whip up contention within the rank and file.

He will move to the middle (if he moves at all), I wager. Strict regulation regarding not just the care of the animals but the places they can be seem to me a rather smart decision. I'm not quite sure why motor traffic should even be allowed on the streets equine traffic is allowed upon.

Further, from the perspective of one long accustomed to travel by horse and carriage, I do not understand its nostalgic draw. If one wanted to see livestock, there are barns within the corporation limits of New York City.

A creaking buggy and a horse's posterior does not a romantic evening make.

I think it's mostly the tourists who like that kind of thing, and they wouldn't know where to go other than Central Park to get their horse kicks.

I'm hoping they don't just destroy the animals, though.

I haven't any doubts that such a fate will not befall these equines, Emma, because we will not allow it to happen.
