In any universe, ringing in the new year was a good tradition, and B'Elanna had had the opportunity to do it many times over, whether on Federation standard time or some other time, but nothing quite compared to being in New York City on 21st century earth. She wasn't brave enough to venture out into the madness, and she stopped by the party in the tower for about an hour before heading back to her apartment, content to sit on the couch and watch the festivities in Times Square from the warmth and comfort of her own home. Well, as close to home as this place was by now at least. On impulsive, she sent a text off to Tom, who she'd seen in passing at the party, to see if he wanted to join her to watch the ball drop and see how earth celebrated. She let him know she picked up a bottle of wine, and she'd found some snacks that she liked. Nothing too fancy, but it was good for her. Anything to avoid large crowds of people staring at her as though she were an alien. (Which she was, half of, of course, but did they have to point and stare?) She hadn't heard back from him and it was nearing midnight (only a half hour left, and she'd already had to put up with lots of bad music and people who looked too drunk to be on the television, when the knock came at her door. |
