It was a beautiful day out but Merlin wasn't enjoying it as much as he should have been. It might have had a little to do with Arthur this morning. Actually ever since Arthur had arrived, he was being a complete clotpole. Not that Merlin wasn't used to such behavior…but it just seemed as though Arthur was needier than usual. Merlin pushed the door open with one hand and checking his messages with the other. He half expected a dozen messages or requests from Arthur. "Cabbage-head," he muttered as his thoughts returned to the king again. As Merlin slipped the phone into his pocket, he glanced forward to see Bonnie standing in ground of him. Immediately he panicked. "I didn't. Not you. That wasn't…What brings you here?" Merlin asked, swiftly changing the subject. Bonnie hadn't stopped trying to find a way out of this place, but she had to admit there were worse places to be stranded. In many ways, New York City was much nicer than Mystic Falls. Having her friends here was nice and, hey, there wasn't some major evil action going on every week. Life was almost [...] normal, the kind of normal it had been before vampires had come into her life. She was on her way to Widdershins, the magic store that was run by one of the other refugees now, just to look around, although she might pick up a few things. Her plans were put on hold, though, when she encountered a face she'd only seen on the network up until now. "Well, of course not," she teased him, "My head isn't remotely cabbage-like!" She was curious as to who he was talking about, though. "I was just thinking I'd have a look around," she explained, nodding toward the business they were standing in front of. He shook his head. "It isn't. Not at all. It's much nicer than a cabbage." As soon as the words left his lips he wanted to crawl into a hole somewhere. Merlin briefly thought about using magic to try and make her forget that but he dismissed the idea. He didn't want to do that to Bonnie. "Oh right," Merlin said with a nod. "It's pretty nice inside," he told her. That much he could tell even if he hadn't been able to enjoy the shop properly. Arthur was being needy but he found himself less willing to return to the prince's side. After all it wasn't technically his job here. Bonnie grinned at his response. “Why, thank you, kind sir,” she drawled in an exaggerated and horrible southern accent. “That’s terribly sweet of you to say.” “You been inside, then?” she asked him of the shop. This was the first chance she’d had to visit, but from the outside it looked pretty interesting. Of course, now she was a little distracted by talking with Merlin. They’d spent a little time together since his arrival and she really enjoyed his company. Widdershins could absolutely wait if Merlin wanted to do something else. "You're welcome..." Did he mention that he didn't have a clue how to talk to girls? Especially pretty witch shaped girls. That seemed to have the power to fluster him and mix up his thoughts. Merlin was far from the kind of guy who knew exactly what to say around girls. "Just briefly," Merlin answered. His being summoned by the prince had interrupted his ability to appreciate the shop. Even more so than Arthur had already had this morning. "It was kind of hard to concentrate thinking about that pizza you promised me," he said, deciding not to head back to the tower. He was sure Arthur would have plenty to say but he'd have to wait til he came home to say it. “I did promise you a pizza, didn’t I?” Bonnie said, tilting her head slightly as she looked at him. She tried to deny it when it came up with her friends, but Bonnie was crushing on Merlin a little bit. It was a lucky thing her complexion was dark enough to hide a blush, since she found herself doing that pretty often when it came to him. “So, magic shop or pizza, which will it be?” she asked. If he wanted to go get that pizza now, she definitely wouldn’t complain. She was new to the city, herself, but she’d found a good place to get some pizza that wasn’t too far away. Merlin's stomach made a bit of noise before he could respond. "I guess my stomach decided for me..." He joked. He was looking forward to trying this pizza everyone was telling him about. It was a wonder he was able to hold out so long. But he was waiting for Bonnie to try it. "We could always come back here after," Merlin suggested. "If you don't have other plans that is," he amended. He had nothing in his plans for today and spending the day with Bonnie seemed like a great way to spend the day. Bonnie laughed. She couldn’t help it. Merlin’s stomach had growled loudly enough that she could hear it, too. “We better feed that monster in your belly before he comes out and eats us both,” she teased. Spending the day with Merlin sounded great to Bonnie and she easily agreed to his suggestion. “That sounds like a good plan,” she said. She didn’t have any plans to speak of and she could just heard Caroline now if she passed up a chance to spend a little more time with the cute warlock. He couldn't stop the burning in his cheeks with all the magic he possessed inside him. What good was magic when you couldn't use it for things like that? "Dragon," he corrected her with a grin. "Would only make sense for a dragon lord to have a dragon," Merlin said, pointing to his horribly loud stomach. It was kind of nice to hear someone say that he actually had a good plan. Even if it wasn't for anything dire. In all his years of service to Arthur and the many times he saved his life he rarely if ever heard statements like those. "Great!" Merlin excitedly agreed. If questioned, it was solely because of the pizza. Bonnie thought the little blush on his face was cute. It only made her like him more, somehow. “Right, dragon,” she agreed, “of course.” She couldn’t help laughing at the joke. “So let’s get him fed before he sets you on fire. You wouldn’t be nearly as cute as a crispy critter.” Oh, wow. Had she actually just said that? Out loud. Maybe she could just die of embarrassment right now. Trying to pretend she hadn’t actually admitted he was cute out loud, she nodded in the direction of the pizza place. “It’s just a few blocks that way, think you can hold out that long?” she said. “It would be a shame to be a crispy critter before I’ve had a chance to try that pizza.” Even though he managed to get the sentence out he had a goofy smile on his face. Merlin didn’t have much experience with girls. He didn’t really have time back home. His destiny had been mapped out for him and he was never given much choice in the matter. It also took up a great deal of time protecting the once and future king and Camelot. Arthur didn’t leave him with much down time. And the only girl he ever had any kind of feelings for was a bastet and killed by Arthur and his knights. That was what he liked about here. Even though he knew the weight of his destiny and he knew Camelot’s fate depended upon him and Arthur, he was growing comfortable here. Merlin was enjoying his fooducation and getting to know Bonnie in the process. Part of him worried that he was being selfish or forsaking his destiny for not being my involved in trying to find a way home. But he couldn’t bring himself to focus on that now. “Possibly. I can’t make any promises though,” he joked. |
