[Filtered away from Clary]

What's this prom business? Everyone keeps talking about it and asking about dates, dresses, and suits.

Am I suppose to ask Clary?

It's a dance, one where you dress up really nice. It's a pretty big deal in a lot of worlds. I didn't go to mine, but for most teens it's a big thing. Usually it's done towards the end of someone's 11th or 12th grade year. Some schools just do one and some do a combined prom for both years.

There a Wiki on it (here) if you want to read up on it.

So, in other words, a silly mundane tradition?

I suppose that depends on your point of view.

Clary calls it a rite of passage, which I think is ridiculous.

Is it really that important in the mundane world, though? Still seems pretty superficial ridiculous.

So, what? You just ask someone then? If Clary says no...

Well, it sort of it. For the seniors, it's the last big dance before graduation and college and having to be adults. It's a part of growing up, I guess.

You can ask someone or not. If I go, I'll be going with a girl friend of mine, no real date. I suppose if you take a date, you have a guaranteed dance partner, but it's not required to take someone.

Mundanes certainly do have stupid interesting methods for growing up.

Though, I wouldn't need a date to have a dance partner. My talent alone would assure that.

I think anything dufferent from what we grew up with can be interesting. That's the cool thing about being here inbthis world. You get to learn about a lot if different cultures.

And if you wants lots of dance partners, you shouldn't take a date. If you only want to dance with one person, ask that person to go with you. At least, that's the general rule.

Are there any more of these rules that I should know about? I need to know which ones are breakable, and which ones can just be ignored.

About the dance or just in general? Most of them are common sense.

Dates, dresses and suits. Sounds like a formal party.

Which means yes, you should ask Clary if she wants to go.

Yeah, yeah. I was already considering it. Besides, she was going to take Rat boy if things were different. Can't have her thinking that!
