WHO: Jenna Sommers & Alaric Saltzman
WHAT: Jenna's arrived in New York when she was supposed to have died. She's confused but more than happy to try and work out that confusion with someone she can trust.
WHEN: After Jenna's arrival and debriefing; Late Evening
WHERE: Room 610
RATING: PG-13
STATUS: Thread; In Progress

It was the middle of the night. That was something Jenna was exceedingly thankful for when she was ushered out of the building. Granted, they had all of her details (more than they really should be able to find out, as far as she was concerned), so she hoped that had it not been evening, they wouldn't have allowed her to leave the building quite as soon as she did. But her physical was done, her paperwork was processed, and it seemed that she was a free as she could be given that she was in an unfamiliar city in an unfamiliar world still trying to cope with a rather severe change to her very existence. She was anxious, confused, scared, and more than anything else, hungry.

She might have been shut out all of that before easily enough, but with the little information she had, the idea of even trying to accidentally shutting down her emotions entirely was too frightening a prospect to even consider so instead, Jenna made her way to the one place that she knew that she would be safe. It wasn't so much the room they had provided that comforted her, but the information of who already resided there. And as she raised a hand to knock, Jenna gathered herself for his reaction.

She could only hope it would be positive. After all, it's not every day someone just...comes back from the dead.

Ric was surprised by the knock on his door. It was late, or late enough anyway that he wasn't expecting any company. He'd been reading, drinking his customary late night bourbon. He knew his habits weren't exactly healthy, but he figured he'd earned it. He was stuck in another reality, and apparently back home he would have become a psychotic killer, murdered half the council, turned into a vampire and died. Oh, and it was all fiction here, for anyone to see. Not exactly the happiest of life stories. Honestly, it felt like his life since Isobel had "died" had just been one giant tragedy. He probably would have been better off never trying to avenge her in the first place. Still, he was glad that Elena and Bonnie had told him the truth. Better than finding out from the television or the internet.

Speaking of, that was probably one of them at the door. He couldn't think of anyone else who would want to see him. His smartphone had given him an email alert, but he hadn't bothered to check it yet and he didn't bother now, just knocked back the rest of his drink and set it down before moving to the door. "Elena," he said as he opened it, "is everything-" And then everything stopped, his breath catching, because it wasn't Elena. And even though he knew people could show up who had died, knew that he himself had done so, it didn't stop his heart from twisting in his chest at the sight of Jenna. His Jenna. The woman he loved more than anything. The woman he had so completely failed.

"Jen." It was more a breath than a word. He couldn't reconcile the woman in front of him with the months of grieving, the complete, shattering emptiness he had felt in her absence. All he could do was stare at her, willing her to say or do something, or to fade away like so many drunken hallucinations.

It was heartbreaking, the look that crossed his face, her own freezing for the briefest of moments as she realized that she hadn't even considered that he hadn't found out that she had arrived yet. They said that they alerted everyone during the debriefing that she had just left, but she had just left. The delay between her leaving there and her arriving her couldn't have been that great, and just the look on his face, in his eyes, made it obvious that he didn't know, that he might think she were a ghost, a figment of his imagination, or a drunken hallucinating. Stepping forward, her own limbs aching at the distance between them, Jenna raised a hand slowly to touch his face, a quiet reassurance that she was, in fact, real, before plunging the rest of the way forward and wrapping her other arm around his shoulders.

"I'm sorry," Jenna said, the only words really surfacing in her mind at the moment. "I should have known better."

They'd told her, after all. It wasn't like she had been clueless at that point. She'd been told about Katherine, about Elena being a doppleganger, and yet, she hadn't even hesitated when she'd been called, when she had heard what she could only assume was Elena's voice on the other end of the line. If anything, that really just proved that they had done the right thing all along, keeping this from her, if she couldn't even protect herself with the information.
