Cade had received the owl during dinner, the thick envelope dropped next to his plate, the return address obvious enough to make him grin. Most owls he received were either from Dominique, or from his sister Sarah, with a few rare owls from his elder sisters as well. This one happened to be from Sarah, with a postmark in France that likely meant she was spending time with Dominique, and that alone pleased Cade.
He was to meet Lavender after dinner for one of their dates: a walk outside in the crisp fall air, some quiet snogging where they could find some privacy. They had fallen into a routine, and that suited Cade just fine. He knew where he stood with her. He showed up to walk with her between classes, they'd spent Hogsmeade together, he bought her gifts, and they had what were the best he could do for dates at Hogwarts. And she hadn't asked for any more than he could give, which was quite possibly the best part of all.
Still, it looked like she was still talking to one of her friends as dinner finished, so Cade walked over to the doorway and leaned there against the wall as he ripped open the envelope. He was curious to see how both his sister and his step-mother were doing, and figured he could read at least some of the letter while waiting for his girlfriend. A small smile tilted his lips as he read what Sarah had written.
