Narrative; Kylo Ren picks up a ginger
February 28
Kylo Ren & a Vogon & a persistent ginger creature.
Prettiest Star • 4:30pm Low • Complete |
Kylo Ren was aware that he was being followed. He had been aware of it for nearly the last twenty minutes although he had been attempting to ignore it in the hopes that it would go away. The creature was persistent, however, much to Kylo's annoyance. He'd gone into a cantina only to find that when he'd come out, it was still lurking there in the shadows. In a huff, he'd walked on and tried to lose it on the elevated trains, but found it on the platform with him four stops later. He glared at it, and it looked back at him unperturbed with unblinking golden eyes, and Kylo stalked off again hoping to lose it as he wandered through shop after shop in a mid-level market on Coruscant. There were any number of beings there, and he'd wandered through five shops, exiting directly in front of a skybridge and he glanced around. There was no sign of it, and possibly he had finally lost it. There was a sense of satisfaction as he crossed the skybridge, found one of the vertical trains and stepped in, headed back for the upper levels. The ship would leave Coruscant today, or so the schedule said. They had claimed you must be on board at a certain time, but Kylo wasn't certain what that actually meant. If you weren't would you simply be left behind, and if you were left behind was that really so bad? For Kylo, whose mother was not his mother, whose father he didn't want to see or be reminded of, and who didn't really have any friends on board the ship, the idea of being left behind did not seem so terrible. Except possibly the inability to be able to speak with and possibly pursue a relationship with his grandfather. It was the one - really the only - draw to go back to the massive vacation ship. He switched trains, and headed on, glancing at the time to see what it was. He half wanted to stop and get a caf, but he supposed if he did want to continue building a relationship with his grandfather he needed to be certain he made it back to the ship, and thus, he should wait and do it there. He frowned, but settled in on the train, staring out at the lights as they passed quickly by. It wasn't home, any more than Coruscant at home would be, but it was certainly more familiar than the Island, more familiar than the tiny town would have been. And while the ship was not unfamiliar in concept, it was not familiar like this Coruscant felt. It did not have the same language, the same droids - it was still foreign and Kylo still didn't like it. But his grandfather. He stalked up towards the check, preparing to show his boarding pass. He was stopped by the droid as he moved to go forward. "The cat does not have paperwork, and you will need to fill out forms to provide it with credentials to board. Please proceed to your right. Someone will help you." Kylo blinked, and then glanced down. There at his feed, sitting on her haunches, and licking a paw, was the same creature that he'd thought he had lost. "It's not my animal." "Please proceed to your right and clear the entrance." The droid repeated without any feeling for Kylo's current dilemma and frustration. "You don't understand, the animal isn't with me, it isn't mine, I'm not taking it." "Please proceed to the right and -" Kylo reached out in the Force almost on instinct, knocking the mechanic AI off its feet with a snarl and a glare, and with the droid knocked out, he turned back to the cat. "You're not coming on board with me." The orange tabby stared up at him. "No, I don't care that you want to explore the galaxy. Convince someone else. I'm not interested in pets." The tail twitched. Kylo swore. The droid recovered slightly. "The cat does not have paperwork, and you will need to fill out forms to provide it with credentials to board," the repeated phrase had a tinny quality that it had not had before. Kylo swore again, but this time he was stopped from moving forward by a large creature moving towards him. "There is Form 2943A to allow the pet on board. You will come with me and sign this. Form 2931A8 will allow us to chip the animal, so that it will be recognized as a passenger of the Prettiest Star. Form 274810b indicates food preferences, any allergies, and general health of the creature." "The cat is not mine," Kylo stared at the alien. It was as tall as Chewbacca, but looked more like an overgrown comma than an overgrown Ewok. "I'm not trying to bring it on board." "Please follow me. Each form must be filled out in triplicate. We will send it for review." "What about the cat in the meantime?" The droid seemed to be relieved that this new bureaucratic anomaly had taken over the frustrated human, and shuffled away from Kylo as quickly as possible. The alien did not seem phased by Kylo's tone. "It will be allowed on, in probationary period. If the committee does not elect to allow your request, it will be returned to this port." "This is your fault," Kylo hissed at the cat. The cat did not look remotely sorry for the trouble that it was causing. If anything, Kylo thought it might look smug. Honestly, it reminded him of Hux. It was ginger, and it was smug, and it seemed to exist purely to irritate him. "Please state your name here," the alien was handing over a clipboard with a datapad and stylus. "The animal's name is listed below." "I don't know it's name," Kylo just barely whispered, as the alien monologued on about forms and duplicates and the procedure that would be necessary for a cat to join the ship's passenger rota leaving Kylo wishing that he'd stalked past the droid while it was out. The cat wasn't his. He wanted nothing to do with it. If the cat had followed him then it would have been on the droid, not on him. He turned to give the cat a glance that would probably have killed a lesser creature. The cat, with the sort of typical persistence of Hux, simply stared at him. Kylo rolled his eyes and reached out to the Force. It was a cat, persistent, slightly bored, and determined to come with him. "Millicent," he turned to the alien which had taken a breath, finally. "The animal's name is Millicent. But she's not mine. And I don't need to fill out your forms." The alien didn't blink and instead handed over the datapad. "Please sign here, and down here, and also here. Fill in the details in section 4d and section 7t." "I don't need to fill out your forms," Kylo tried again, with a little more force behind it. "There is also the section on health on form 274810b, all information will be subject to review by the ship's medical compartment." Kylo looked down at the cat, who, he could have sworn was laughing at him. It came over, sat itself down right next to Kylo's black boot and lifted a front paw daintily to begin washing it. "Of course the Force would have no impact on either of you," he muttered, taking the clipboard from the alien and turning to section 4d. He was growing soft, and if Snoke were here he would no doubt hear of it, but mostly Kylo just wanted a caf, and to get away from this alien embodiment of the worst of galactic government procedure and policy. |
