I see I am not the only unusual arrival today. My designation name is Justice of Toren One Esk Nineteen. It's quite long, but One Esk is a common nickname.

I'm an ancillary from a Radchaai ship and am quite fond of singing. Are any of you musically inclined? I'd very much like to learn old earth music.

Yeah, you should be pretty well set. There's also plenty of people here to help if you do need it, not just me.

Well, here's the concerts I'd recommend, if we can manage to get tickets to some or any of them. You could look them up on Youtube and pick your favorites if you don't want to see them all. But if I wanted to see as much variety of Earth music concerts in the next week, these are the ones I'd choose:

-Rolling Stones, May 12, Vancouver
-Michael Buble, May 13, Des Moines
-Lynyrd Skynyrd, May 14, Fresno
-Incubus, May 15, North Myrtle Beach
-Cheap Trick, May 16, Kanata Canada
-The Black Keys, May 17, Calgary
-Lindsey Stirling, May 18, Sydney
-Norah Jones, May 19, LA
-REO Speedwagon, May 20, Westbury NY

Of course, there'll be even more concerts later too if you're still here.

Thank you. I am unaccustomed to asking for help. But I will try my best.

What are transportation options like here? The wheeled transports are fairly slow. And I do work the 15th - 18th. I'd enjoy going to all of them, I am sure. I've gathered a wide variety of music over the years.

Well, no time like now.

Portals are the best bet. They get you anywhere almost instantaneously. Hopefully there's still someone around here that can make them in all this madness.

Future's never guaranteed with the portal, but usually you get at least a week.

The interstellar travel I am used to is similar, with regards to moving much faster than normal speeds. But we utilize it to cross vast distances, so it still takes some time. On the scale of a planet, it would be similarly quick.

The future is never guaranteed anywhere. At least so long as it's unknown.

Cool, you're already used to the idea. Before this I had only been teleported by angels. Which, if there's no portal available, I do have an angel friend here that might be willing to go see a concert or two.

That's true, of course.

I am used to being the one generating them. But that part of me is not here. There are supernatural beings here? I met some aliens at work, but that is... new.

Ancillary units rarely live as long as a full human lifetime. But that is true for many soldiers.

You were able to generate them? Oh, you mean as a ship. Yeah, there are supernatural beings here. We've had all sorts of them in the time I've been here. Werewolves, vampires, angels, demons, gods and demigods.

I get that. I'm a monster hunter. We don't have a great life expectancy either.

Yes, as a ship. There were also established tunnels and routes ships that could not generate their own route could use. Less direct sometimes. [...] Hmm, I've heard plenty about a wide variety of creatures in folk lore, but I've never seen any exist.

The stories I know really don't go well for monster hunters. There is always something else out there in the dark.

It's too bad that doesn't translate to an ability here. It would be useful. Established tunnels would be useful, too.

I've seen a lot of monsters. And man, if 'there's always something else in the dark' isn't the story of my life, I don't know what is. I've already died multiple times, technically.

It would be an incredible advancement of technology to have implants for that. I would have needed additional tech, not just what I have on board, to set up permanent tunnels. It's not what I was generally used for.

We have something in common then. This body hasn't died, but I've died more times than is worth counting. In about as many ways as are imaginable in war. I am sorry you've had that experience. [...] It isn't something I'm used to single-bodied people... living through.

If it's an advance for your time, it's definitely advanced for this one.

I'm sorry you've had that experience, too. It's not common for people where I come from, even hunters, but between my brother, Heaven, and Hell, I just never seem to stay dead.

Agreed. But nothing would stop someone from as far in the future as I am from here from me from showing up.

It's normal for a ship, especially a troop carrier. Well, that is a unique situation to be in.
