TEXT MESSAGES: SEIVARDEN VENDAAI

» Do you remember that post that was put up, looking for dates for their family?
» Turns out at least one of them might actually be interested in dating.

» If you're looking at me, I don't know if I need to add another lover to my life right now.
» I've been busy enough I've barely even spent much time with Gabe and Eleanor.

» I've seen that. For this one, no I'm not looking at you.
» Getting you involved with the ship side of things this time.
» I was thinking of Genya.

» Ah, I see, you're matchmaking.
» Is Genya looking for a date? I know she has a husband back home.

» I like people to be doing well, as much as anyone else.
» I don't know. But Bill's in a similar bind. Married back home but has been here alone a while.
» I know Genya's husband was here for a brief time. So I'm not sure where she's at, emotionally.
» Whether they date or not, I think they'd make good friends and be able to understand each other.

» I know. I think it's sweet
» That's not a bad idea. It's probably hard for people to be alone here if they're missing someone and they're in a relationship that doesn't allow for being with anyone else.
» So what's the plan for introducing those two?

» It's what most people want.
» I also expect they don't talk about it the most, and even if they do, the only ones who could fully understand is another person in that situation.
» Genya already comes to Station for her shop. And the main concourse isn't that large.
» It wouldn't be hard to introduce them in a larger social setting, like tea or lunch.
» I thought that might be a good first step, before trying to get them together alone.

» I'm pleased to be involved in ship business, however this ends up.
» So we just need to get Bill over here somehow
» Do you know him well enough already to invite him over for tea or lunch?

» Yes. And I'll admit, I'll be glad if it leads to friendship or romance.
» I've only gotten to know him through this. But I'll ask him if he's amenable.
» And we already mostly use the main refectory.

» That would be a nice ending. Either one.
» Sounds like you have a plan, then. Do you need anything from me?

» Yes. Including for us and Station.
» Not immediately. But if you meet Bill and get along, feel free to invite him back again.
» Plans don't always work on the first try.
» And it is fun to have someone else to speak with about it.

» Speaking of plans, I was thinking. We keep meaning to host a fundraising party/event, and I was thinking the holiday season would be a good time for that.
» And this week's holiday seems like a day when people are in a giving mood, especially relating to food.
» It's probably too late to put together something this week, and people may be busy with their loved ones, but maybe next week or the one after would work? What do you think?

» The spirit of the holiday is a good one. The shelter is serving turkey that day, and it's full on volunteers.
» It's a good idea, and we easily have the resources to cook. We may wish to purchase more goods than usual to provide fare of interest to more than those in the Radchaai military.
» Let's put it together.

» Yes, but the rest of the year, they're not so well stocked.
» We could ask for volunteers to help us cook, or to bring something they've cooked. Some of the displaced would probably be willing.
» And we should probably pick a date.

» Just the holidays.
» Yes, and I hope many will be generous. We may be displaced here, but most of us have housing.
» Fridays and Saturdays are the popular weekend days, though that would need some adjustments to our schedule to handle.
» If we go with that, the 6th or 7th works.

» Holiday spirit is great and all, but people need food on more than just the holidays.
» I think if it was an early evening event, we would have time to prepare and wouldn't be up too late for our shift.
» But we could also see about getting our shift covered. Or only one of us could miss, and the other could leave the event early if necessary.

» Yes. But if this is their season of giving, we can utilize that.
» Whatever is it, we can make it work.
» If I go without sleep a day, I can manage that fine. I've done it before.
» Let's do some meal planning, then an open invite.

» I think we should be able to plan ahead so that you don't have to.
» What do we need to plan ahead of time? Types of dishes?
» Do we want to go with the theme of meals that seems to be in fashion right now? There's a lot of turkey and pumpkin.

» We can. That's just a backup plan.
» Types of dishes and also the schedule to cook it to be ready.
» Turkey and pumpkin are good. I'm fine using canned pumpkin instead of working with it fresh. And turkey, we could do whole birds, but it'll be easier if it's not.
» The radio is also very into cranberry sauce. Which does sound like it will balance out the richness.
