It had taken him a ridiculously long time to get all this set up - and by that he meant more than a week because a week was too long to wait, he wanted to do it immediately, but his more sensible side had won out. Tyler had gone all out back home in Blackpoint when he had done this the first time. Gabby only deserved the best and if that meant doing this all over again, Tyler just saw it as an opportunity to do it better. So he had made the arrangements at Disney, got the horse rented, made sure the costumes were true as they could be, and made sure that the ring was in his pocket, when they finally set out for Disney for the week. They had spent a good deal of that time with friends and just enjoying the park like the big kids they were, but on the last night there, he had broken out the costume and asked Gabby to indulge him and really get into character. There was a distinctive Tangled vibe to the evening and Tyler was glad she wasn't questioning his sudden love for cosplay. They were heading to dinner, when he suddenly stopped and told her to go ahead, he forgot his wallet back in their room and that he'd catch up with her. When she agreed, he waited until she was walking ahead, before he was running back to a hidden alcove, where Kurama was waiting with his white horse. Fist bumping the man, he got onto the horse and took off in the direction Gabrielle had gone. The clomp of the horse's hooves probably gave him away before he came into sight, but he had ended up stopping her on a stone bridge walkway along the water. He was grinning at her when she caught sight of him. And suddenly from below the bridge they were on, lanterns starting floating into the air, set off by their friends who had come along to support them. Before she could question anything, he hopped off the horse and started walking toward her. He pulled the brown satchel he had his side. forward, and went into it to pull out the ring he had used to propose to her back home. There had been one secret he had been hiding from her, all these months. With him being dead when they had first arrived, he knew he couldn't tell her that he was actually a little further along their Blackpoint timeline than she was. Not by much, but just enough that they had been engaged by the time he had been taken from. And when he had seen her bare finger, he knew immediately she had no idea of this, so he had kept his mouth shut. Because while he had all the faith in the world in Bonnie, you just never knew if something could go wrong. And if he he had been stuck a ghost for the rest of his existence, there was no way in hell he was going to drag Gabby into that with him. Luckily, things had worked out. He had only waited a little less than a month to make sure that this was going to stick, before he was ready to tell her the truth. And the truth was this: "Gabrielle Delacour," he started, as he gracefully took a knee in front of her, "I knew from that moment I met you seven years ago, that the Gods had willed it. Because, literally, a Greek God was responsible for the screw up that had me obsessing over you. Since that moment, I haven’t regretted a single thing that has happened between us, except for maybe how long it took me to get back to this point with you.” Raising his hand, the ring shining brightly under the light of the moon and floating lanterns, he continued with a huge smile, “There’s a lot I want to tell you, a lot of explanations that need to be had, but right now, I just want to ask you one important question: Will you marry me?” Gabrielle Delacour was a princess, and not just because she was currently outfitted in Rapunzel’s dress. From the moment she’d been born, she’d been given every opportunity, never wanting for anything even though, perhaps, she sometimes should have been. She walked gracefully, head held high, spoke kindly and eloquently to those she was acquainted with and always, always gave more than she took when it came to those she loved most. So she wasn’t entirely suspicious as to why Ty was all of a sudden going all out on the Princess theme during their vacation. The last few months had been hard, much more difficult than either of them would ever admit. The day that Tyler was brought back to life, Gabrielle had been overwhelmed, justifiably so. Whispered words of how scared she had been lifted the weight off of her, because she refused to disclose that to, well, anyone. But everything was alright now. They weren’t holding onto the fear that he’d be taken away again, Gabrielle could finally sleep through the night without waking up in a sweat at the thought that Bonnie’s success had all been a dream. No, this was all real. They could be happy and together and who said fairy tales couldn’t actually exist? Clearly that fool hadn’t met them. She was caught in her own head, mindlessly playing with her dress as people passed when she heard the hooves. Gabrielle pressed herself as close as she could to the side of the bridge, trying not to get in the way of the oncoming person when it registered that her boyfriend was on top of the horse? And coming towards her? And on a knee with something shiny? “Huh?” And were those lanterns right now? “Stand up. Please.” The confused smile that had blossomed turned into a beam as she held her hand out to him. Because this was important, it was. The story of their engagement would be one that Gabrielle knew she would share for years to come, one with them starting a new chapter together as equals, and her heart was about to burst, she knew. “You are my favorite person,” she informed him once he was up with her. “Without question, without doubt, without reservation. And I will never, as long as we’re alive and beyond that, regret anything that has led us here.” Every word was true, even if her voice shook just a bit with the effort it took not to just start crying. “Of course I’ll marry you, bel homme. I really really want to marry you.” “Good because it would have been really awkward if you had said no.” The stupid smile on Tyler’s face wasn’t going anywhere, as he took her hand into his own and slipped the ring onto her finger. Perfect fit, as he knew it would be. “Though before we get any further, I have to confess something - you know how I mentioned I’m a little ahead in our timeline in Blackpoint?” He didn’t want to start this new chapter of their lives together with secrets between them. He was going to confess everything. “You know I wouldn’t say no,” she murmured, heart pounding as the ring was put into place at last. It was only then that she truly looked at it, the observation that it was shiny put to the side as she took it in, a little awestruck at just how perfect it was. Her staring, it seemed, would just have to wait, though. “I remember.” It had been something he refused to discuss no matter how many times she attempted to wheedle spoilers out of him. “What did you do?” “So technically,” he began, not even denying that he did something. He totally did something. “This might not be the first time I’ve proposed to you?” Tyler waited for the kick or slap he was anticipating from her, completely aware that she had every right to be annoyed with him for keeping this a secret for so long. A blink. Then another. Then one more as the rosy glow of the engagement lessened just slightly at the confession. “Ty,” she sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose with her left hand, purposely to get another glimpse of the ring. She was only human, after all. “You could have told me.” She understood why he wouldn’t have, though, with his initial status coming through the portal. “It would’ve been alright. You’re enough.” Even if he hadn’t been able to be brought back- if that was all they had, then they would’ve made it work. “I don't want to argue about whether that's true or not, but I am sorry I didn't tell you about it before. It was all too Romeo and Juliet for me and that shit did not end well, you know? I just wanted this,” here Tyler gestured to the mood and scenery around them, “To be what stood out. Not what might not have been.” “You’re enough,” Gabrielle insisted gently, stepping towards him so she could kiss him. “Wherever we are, no matter what lies in front of us, I am lucky because I have you. Forever now,” she added, almost giddy. The lanterns floated still, the ooohs and ahhhs of the other park patrons echoed across the path, leaving Gabrielle contentedly silent as she soaked it all in, amazed that this moment was their own. Tyler smiled, so completely fond of the woman in front of him, so amazed that she was still all set to marry him. He wasn’t sure what he had done in life to get something so good, but he wasn’t going to complain. At least, not until he heard someone from below should, “WELL, DID SHE SAY YES?” Where the lanterns had been released from, their Blackpoint family was apparently waiting to hear from them. Tyler rolled his eyes and shouted back, “OF COURSE SHE SAID YES!” It sounded suspiciously like Raven who was heckling them. “OKAY, GREAT. NEVER TELL ME SECRETS AGAIN.” “They are seriously the least patient people alive,” Gabby laughed, her head falling forward to rest on Ty’s shoulder, unable to be irritated. She could hear their friends below start cheering, their presence only warming her already touched heart. Their family was unconventional, she knew, but it was whole and here and that meant everything. “Je t'aime tellement,” she promised, hugging her fiancé close. Ignoring the catcalling and cheering from below - because seriously, what were they, five? - Tyler kissed the top of Gabrielle’s blonde head and returned her promised. “Je t'aimerai toujours.” |
