DMs SENT SEPARATELY TO MYCROFT AND ALBUS

There is a woman here who looks uncannily like my sister. It's quite unnerving, particularly because I think she runs some sort of gambling hall.

That unfortunately happens from time to time. I'm sorry there is someone who resembles a family member though. I can't imagine that is easy. Is there something wrong with gambling?

It's clear she's quite different from Sybil, which makes it all that much more awkward. My sister is also deceased back home.

I feel like it would be awkward either way. Perhaps even more painful if she was similar.

Oh.

Yes. That is what makes it infinitely more heartbreaking. There used to be a man here who looked exactly like my late husband.

I noted the resemblance. I also did some digging. She doesn't run a gambling hall.

I keep forgetting that you know my family... well, know of them.

It's worse, then?

Quite.

It depends on your point of view. In her world, she's employed at a brothel. Now, if that's what she's establishing in Tumbleweed, I can't say for sure.

She might run into a spot of trouble if she promotes the gambling aspect too heavily, seeing at that activity is illegal in the State of Texas.

I knew it. There was something about her manner of speech, and the gambling houses usually go hand in hand with brothels.

Dear God.

She comes from an era where the popular statistic was that one in five women in London were occupied in that profession. It was one of the very few trades an independent woman was socially accepted to hold.

There are places within the United States that are, shall we say, conservative in their values.

Yes, well, then Victoria happened. Perhaps Granny isn't terribly off in some of her ideas.

Dear God, if she was here and saw Sybil dressing in such a way she would die on the very spot.

Most of the United States tends to be rather conservative, even compared to the British upper class.

I can only imagine Sybil's reaction to seeing her.

We are just on the outer edge of an era referred to as the 'Bible Belt', where socially conservative evangelical Protestantism plays a strong role in society and politics. Almost fanatically so.

Americans always did have a tendency to take things too far, Christianity included.

It's part of their collective consciousness as a nation.

Back to our Sybil look alike. Have you introduced yourself to her yet?

I did. She's having a get together soon, but I don't think I wish to go.

Certainly, if you deem that any of it is important.
