Thread: Rogue & Jean
WHO: Rogue (movies) & Jean Grey (616)
WHAT: Heading to the X-Mansion which should be... interesting
WHEN: Sunday, June 3rd, evening
WHERE: Front steps of the X-Mansion, likely inside
WARNINGS: None at the moment. Will update if that changes.
STATUS: In progress

Rogue honestly didn't know what to expect when she finally set out using the directions the Professor had given her. It wasn't her Professor, but he seemed to be the same kind-hearted man she knew from her world. Assuming that she was buying into this whole portal thing. She still hadn't decided where she fell on that.

On the one hand, this wouldn't be anything new. She'd woken up in dozens of scenarios in the repurposed Danger Room in an effort to test the limits of her powers. Sometimes she was even given serums to nullify her powers, testing to see whether a mutant could work through the serum and still access their powers. Those were the worst.

This scenario was different, though.

Sure, she'd gone through simulations where she believed she'd been freed or had broken out of the labs. But she'd never met (or, talked to, anyway) other versions of herself. Rogue was still reeling from that. Were they going to look the same? Just look similar? Look absolutely nothing like her? Were their powers the same? Their histories weren't the same, that much was obvious.

The histories of a lot of people here weren't the same. And -- because she was just the luckiest person alive, apparently -- the only person with even some of the same memories as her was someone she wanted to slap.

If she hadn't spent years in a refurbished school turned genetic experimentation laboratory, going to the mansion might have been comforting. As it stood, she was worried about what she was going to find there. But since she had no cash, she couldn't get that cup of coffee she'd been wanting. Or that whiskey. Or much of anything. And it meant this trip was going to be made on foot whether she liked it or not.

By the time she reached the front lawn of the mansion, she was exhausted. She was underfed, under-exercised, and the walk had her pausing, pushing her hair out of her eyes and scanning the mansion critically. There was no Sentinel patrol. No spotlights illuminating the darkest corners. No watch tower. No bars on the windows. The grass was green and hadn't been torn up by battle. It was... well, truthfully, it was the place that she still dimly remembered. That was enough encouragement to get her to head to the front door, pressing the doorbell before leaning back against the side wall to wait.

Jean was in the midst of drinking tea as she sat on a couch in the parlor of the mansion, positioned so that she could watch the sunset. Beside her sat a notepad, a pen, and her phone, along with a few papers she'd been grading, but for now she was taking a little break. Jacob moved inside her and she smiled a little, pressing one hand to where he was lightly kicking, and telepathically sent him some soothing thoughts. Soon, my love, she murmured into his mind, before taking another sip of the tea.

When the doorbell rang, she idly reached out with her mind to see who it was and smiled when she caught Rogue's mind. Withdrawing quickly, she stood and carefully made her way to the front door before the doorbell could be rung a second time. Thanks to her telekinesis, her gait was almost normal and her back pain was eased, allowing her to have no trouble opening up the front door of the mansion to smile at the young woman.

"Rogue, I'm glad you came," she said, despite knowing that it might be a bit of a shock for her to see Jean - and a Jean who was nearly nine months pregnant, at that. Taking a few steps back so Rogue could enter, she gestured lightly. "Please, come in."

Rogue let out a breath when the door opened. Then sucked it back it. Jean. Looking like her Jean, the one she was familiar with, the one who had helped her get settled at the school when she was a terrified fifteen year old.

The last time she'd seen any Jean was when she'd sacrificed herself at Alkali Lake. And then she'd heard stories about what had happened at Alcatraz.

So to say that seeing a very alive and very pregnant Jean was a shock was an understatement.

Of course, Rogue knew better than to ask any woman whether she was pregnant, no matter how obvious it was. But she couldn't seem to stop herself from blurting out, "You're pregnant." Like Jean herself wasn't aware of that. And like it wasn't the rudest thing in the world to say.

She was only vaguely aware of Jean's invitation to come inside, but that was the only thing that stopped Rogue from staying frozen in place.

Jean waited patiently as Rogue took in her appearance, and she couldn't help but give a soft laugh at her words. "Mm. I'm due in a couple of weeks," she said, her free hand resting lightly over her womb. "His name is Jacob Liam. And - I'm sorry I didn't mention it on the network, but I didn't want to overwhelm you with new information when you'd only just arrived." There were still moments that she was suddenly overcome with worry, fear, or nervousness, especially since she and Scott didn't have the best track record when it came to children, but the rest of the time she was sure of this, and all she could do was hope she was ready.

Once Rogue had stepped in, she shut the large door. "Are you hungry? I'm sure there's something to eat in the kitchen. And I can make you some tea, if you like."

If this was all someone messing with her head, Rogue couldn't even imagine the purpose of adding Jean and Scott back into the picture accomplished. Or what a pregnant Jean accomplish. Hell, or what another version of her with a daughter accomplished. "I... no, I'm sorry. It was just a surprise. Especially because you look exactly like her. The Jean I knew."

It was weird to be talking like this to someone. Over a network? That was different. There was a certain amount of distance when you were talking to someone over a computer. But the doctors and scientists didn't talk to the prisoners unless they were interrogating them. Pleasant conversation and managing to control her brain-to-mouth filter was something she was going to have to get used to again.

Rogue's eyes briefly lit up when Jean mentioned food before she quickly covered it up. She'd revealed what felt like a lot of information over the network, just... overwhelmed by everything. And right then she didn't want to say that it felt like it had been forever since she'd had a decent meal. Something that wasn't downright repulsive. Then again, Jean was a telepath and if the redhead caught stray thoughts at all, that one was pretty prominent.

"Something to eat would be good. You know, if it's no trouble."

Jean was more than familiar with the belief of thinking someone was influencing your mind, and she'd been through it herself more times than she could even remember. She was also now used to mutants arriving from troubling times in other realities - or even her own - and as a result she didn't try to push Rogue, and she didn't ask about what she may have gone through. Instead, Jean focused on what the woman in front of her did and said instead. "It's fine," she said with a smile. "I've heard that a couple times, so I can understand the confusion and surprise."

She noticed the brief lightening in Rogue's gaze and the sharp longing for food that she'd given off when it was mentioned, and Jean had to keep herself from reaching out to comfort Rogue physically with a hug or a touch. Since she didn't have full control of her powers, she knew Rogue would be adverse to being touched, and instead she simply shook her head.

"It's no trouble at all. Come on," she said, and led the way back towards the kitchen. Once they reached it, Jean opened the fridge for a moment, then looked back over her shoulder. "We have some leftovers - spaghetti and lasagna - or there are different ingredients here for sandwiches. At least a dozen sandwiches, really, so it's your choice." Despite the fact that they no longer had a speedster living at the Mansion or visiting, for some mutants their metabolisms were often in overdrive thanks to their powers, so she tried to keep things stocked regularly.

Following Jean into the kitchen, she couldn't help but marvel at the state of the mansion. It was well-lit, pristine in comparison to what she'd grown accustomed to. It almost didn't feel right, even though this was the way the mansion was supposed to look. Another thing she didn't want to say out loud. And if she knew that Jean was holding back on any questions, Rogue would have been grateful for it.

She'd barely had time to process what was happening when she'd been woken up, broken out, and brought to take Kitty's place. And then she'd ended up here, still in a prisoner uniform. Which, speaking of, she was looking forward to finding a replacement for. Though Rogue supposed that no one here would even recognize it for what it was. At least it wasn't black and white stripes.

"Oh. Wow." She'd stopped a few steps behind Jean, making sure to keep enough distance between them. If she normally didn't want to risk bumping into someone, she definitely didn't want to risk bumping into a pregnant woman. But a fridge stocked with food... that was like heaven to her. She rubbed at the back of her neck, trying not to look like she was ready to just pull everything out of the refrigerator and eat until she got sick. "Um. Lasagna. You should sit down. Are you supposed to be on your feet?"

"Lasagna it is," Jean replied, reaching in to pull out a small casserole dish that had several helpings still in it. Setting it on the counter, she pulled out a plate as she waved off Rogue's concerns. "I'm fine, but thank you for the concern. I'm using my powers to help me get along a little better, so it honestly isn't that bad. Some aches, but I can stay on my feet," she said.

Jean busied herself with placing a large portion of the lasagna onto the plate, and then setting it in the microwave. While normally she might have used the oven to heat it back up, Rogue was obviously somewhat malnourished, and she wanted to have the food ready for her more quickly. As the numbers began to count down, Jean set a kettle of water on the stove, and then she did sit at the table, gesturing for Rogue to join her.

"Rogue - I know that what you've gone through recently has been very hard, but you don't have to talk about it right now, if you don't want to. And I want you to know that you're more than welcome to stay here, if you wish."

Figured that even this Jean would be the motherly type and wave off any concerns about being on her feet.

Rogue started towards a chair after Jean, then paused. "Do you mind if I--" Well, hell, there was a sink with a faucet with fresh water. And she was just going to hope that this Mansion didn't have all the cups in some completely random cabinet. Which it didn't, apparently, when Rogue opened the cabinet that she remembered having cups and glasses... mostly plastic, though. Considering a school full of kids who were prone to break... well, everything.

She grabbed the biggest one, filling it with water, then went to sink into one of the seats at the table. Sipping, then gulping. It was the most ridiculous this, and water was tepid at best, but right then it was the most delicious thing she'd ever tasted.

Watching Jean over the top of the glass once she'd stopped chugging, Rogue shrugged. "Nah. No big deal." It was a Big Deal. And, really, if Jean wanted to it wasn't like those images weren't at the forefront of Rogue's mind. "Plus they gave us this classy uniform. Gray's everyone's color."
