By the way, there are a small community of Weevils living in the sewer system beneath Tumbleweed.

For those of you who don't know, a Weevil looks like this.

Yes, they look ferocious, and yes they happened to come through the portal along with the other things you guys battled last Sunday. However, they're a race of beings with intelligence, their own social system, express emotions, and have every right to life like anybody else. A few of their numbers had to unfortunately be killed because of their aggression, but that's because, like every last one of us Displaced, they were rudely yanked from their universe and thrown into a strange environment, which in their case is completely foreign from their own. They were confused, frightened, angry. And I can remember reading on the network a number of people who reacted the same way when they woke up in quarantine. Unlike the rest of us, they didn't have the luxury of getting a chance to calm down and have stuff explained to them.

Since then, I've talked to them - they've got mild telepathic abilities, and now understand what's going on. We've helped to set up a home for them in the sewers, and they want to left alone, to live in peace. By 'we', I mean Ianto, River, and myself. We've fitted them with tracking devices on the off off off chance one of them goes rogue. They've also been given the same vaccination we all got from Fort Neill, so there isn't any worry about them spreading disease. The only reason why they'd want to come to the surface is if they're hungry or being bothered, and I've made sure they won't go hungry.

I'm asking all of you, please don't bother them. I will be taking personal responsibility of them, and anybody going down to antagonize or hurt them won't be taken very lightly.

They're not the first non-humans to arrive, present company included. But as far as I know, they're the first that look scary and could easily be confused as a threat. Especially since they can't communicate like the rest of us. They don't have a written language, so forget about using these devises to post.

This batch came straight from their home planet, so they've never encountered Earthlings before, and the people in this universe haven't ever seen Weevils, apart from Ianto's show, Torchwood. But I know how humans get get. I also know there are Displaced among us who get into hunting and killing things, so I want to nip that right in the bud and warn people before anything like that happens.

If you want to learn more, I'll be glad to tell you. What do you want to know about their telepathic abilities?

Scary is an assessment we make, based on what has been a threat to us before. And it is a shame that something so different, not of our world, should face such difficulty when they have no more in common with those threats than they do with us. But it's remarkable how different people can be, and that is something I have always sought after.

I will admit I have no experience with Weevils or knowledge of them (this kind, anyway; I do know about the earth insects of the same name), and I am more than willing to research whatever information is available about them. But from what you say here, I am concerned that what is available may not be a fair assessment of them.

I am curious about how they communicate, not only that it is telepathic, but what and how they communicate with it. We have ideas, grammar, thoughts shaped by the words we use, the tone in which we say them, even our body language when that is available to be observed... What shapes their communications? How do you communicate with them within the social and structural norms they have? How does the way they see the world differ because of these differences? I am rather poor at having a stopping point at which I have learned enough.
