Do we have to throw balls at them? It seems mean. Especially for the shy ones. They spend all that time hiding from people and then as soon as someone finds them they get things thrown at them and locked in a little ball. Why can't we just feed it until it feels safer?

You don't trap it, it actually goes to a nearby archipelago until you summon it again.
