What the fuck just happened? Why is this a thing that has to happen? Let's put our minds together for figuring out a way to not get any memory dumps. I'd like to hear some ideas. Magical. Scientific. Whatever we've got here.

[There be spoilers for The Magicians, season 3 up to episode 7 in here. And yes, Margo's lost an eye!]

I'm sorry.

[...]

I'll see what I can do. There are definitely ways to massage memories, or remove them, although that's complicated, because things build on each other, and taking out the wrong piece can create a chain reaction of problems, never mind, it just is.

What I'm less certain is how they're being delivered in the first place, so would mental shielding be enough to block it? and how to mechanize that for anyone who doesn't want any more.

There was a magical patch that went on the back of the neck to block out psychic interference. If we could reengineer it a little differently, it could theoretically be designed to block out an external memory dump.

The Hogwarts alumni also have something called a pensive, which might also hold some practical applications for after an unwanted memory has been gained, but I’d have to see if anyone from their world knows anything.

A patch or something the person themselves controlled would be ideal. Most of what I can do, I can do for myself - presuming its effective at all - but doing it for others, or on others, is going to require a lot of mental energy, so maintaining it - difficult.

Removing memories after they're there is I think all around something we're all going to have more experience with. You could possibly bait and switch it, like - it's the basic technique behind the 'Jedi Mind Trick' thing. You trick someone into focusing on something else. It doesn't take away the thing usually (it can, but most of the time you don't need to be that specific because humans are generally pretty easily distracted), but it focuses them onto a different context so it doesn't make the impact it would otherwise.

The problem with the patch is it isn’t meant to be worn long term. It was originally designed as a temporary defense against psychic assault. So, my ideas are just starting points, really. But I’m hoping others might have knowledge to build upon it.

I have some experience with memory and mind manipulation. That’s good to know. Thanks.

Would it have negative effects with long term wear?

As is? That was my understanding. The design would have to be improved upon.

The challenge with any of these is going to be getting something that does only what we want and is not problematic in other ways.

Do you have one of the patches?

No. And I also admit trying to alter these designs specifically might not result in anything useful.

But we have experts in magic from other worlds we can consult with and we’re going to a fairytale world so, I guess we check it out and keep our eyes open for something that can help.

No, they might not. Probably won't. But maybe we'll learn something from one of them.

I honestly can't say I'm incredibly anxious to receive one of these myself.

Then we’ll prevent it. You’re friends with the right people who can figure it out.

We should talk about this, probably.

I don't know. I'm worried about Here I guess. That might change. But let's just do it here.

Here's the thing, I tried to help Penny some with blocking Taylor Swift out of his head, but we haven't really experimented that much. There are other Jedi here - but you may or may not be able to get them to help because Jedi Code shit, even if it wouldn't surprise me if Kenobi or Ahsoka know something.

Then ... fuck them?

Did Eliot tell you I didn't actually go to Brakebills? I sort of had to get my knowledge elsewhere. If they're not going to help, then they can stay out of our way.

It sounds like Regina might know something, but it also looks like she isn't talking to me. But at least she responded to Margo so that's something?

Yeah, that's pretty much what I say, regularly. It's just frustrating that they might have knowledge locked up in their head, and we can't access it.

I don't know Regina at all. I tend to not talk to people unless there's a reason to. Eliot's the friendly one.

I didn't know you didn't go to Brakebills, but I'll tell you this - my experience with 'authorized education' wasn't stellar, so I bet you anything you figured out a good way to learn.

[...] Actually it was terrible, but I also didn't have a lot of options. Moving on.

Regina looks like our best lead and she gave us a list so, when we get to land, I say we start looking. I know a few different barrier spells so...

Let's hope dragons here aren't like the ones back home or that there's a black market?

I know what that feels like.

What do you know about Regina? Anything? I guess we have the list either way.

I need to work some shit out, but I'm willing to spend my time mostly looking.

I know Margo has no problem calling out anyone for any perceived bullshit, and she didn't have anything negative to say about Regina. She knows more than I do.

Join us when you can. Do what you need to do.

No, she definitely does not have any difficulty with that. She probably is fine then.

I will. Thanks.
