I'm beginning to wonder if the gods of my world are omnipotent.

Skyrim. It's a cold, northern province of a land called Tamriel. I miss it.

And hey! You answered your own question. If they have kids, they're not omnipotent.

I'm the Dovahkiin. The dragons are... Mi los fin kiir do Bormahu; the Children of Akatosh.
My blood and soul is that of a dragon's, though I have a mortal body.

I think you're thinking of the word impotent. Omnipotent means 'constantly present'.

What's Bormahu and Akatosh?

Are you normally a dragon? Can you change forms?

Oh, right! But if they're not here, then they're probably not omnipotent either.

[info]dovahkiin_

Bormahu is Akatosh.
I can't change forms, no. I just have some of the same abilities as them. Projecting my energy into a Shout, and absorbing the souls and knowledge of slain dragons.

The gods do not typically allow themselves to be seen by mortals. They live in the heavens, and they are not restricted to roam this plane as we are. They can be everywhere, and nowhere to be seen.

Does the "mi los fin kiir do" part mean children?

Do you have family members that are dragons? Does it skip a generation?

What about asking them for a sign?

It does. The dragons of my homeland have their own language and culture. The language is called Dovahzul. I'm still learning it. My parents were both mortal. Being the Dragonborn is a blessing of Akatosh, and very rare. We only show up when the need for us is dire, and there's usually only one of us per era. As for family? I consider the dragons my brethren, yes. Paarthurnax is my mentor in the Way of the Voice, and Odahviing is more of an ally. I can call upon him in battle, and he will come.

So if the dragons think they need more dragons they can bless people make more dragons? How long do the dragons usually live?

We had something like that back home. There were guardian forces that could be summoned to kick some ass.

It's not that, exactly. I didn't know I was the Dragonborn until I killed my first. Their name was Mirmulnir. When Mirmulnir fell, I absorbed his life force into my own body. It surprised me more than the guards, honestly. I am still the only living person that can permanently kill a dragon through absorbing their souls, but they are immortal. Paarthurnax and Odahviing are both around a thousand years old, I reckon.

The dragons just expect people to figure it out on their own? That sounds pretty rough. If their souls don't get absorbed, what happens?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]dovahkiin_

The dragons didn't make me Dragonborn, nor do they choose the Dragonborn. Akatosh does, as the creator of the dov. He chose me for reasons I'm still not sure of. Though I have some suspicions.

If their soul isn't absorbed, they're still dead. It's just they could be resurrected at a later date. That's what happened with Odahviing. He was killed by the Dragonguard some time ago, but back then there was no Dragonborn. Odahviing's skeleton was buried somewhere near Riften and he was resurrected by Alduin - the dragon I was destined to kill.

I guess you can't really sit down and have a discussion with the guy, at least not while you're here.

If you consider the dragons to be family, why are you supposed to kill them?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]dovahkiin_
2017-12-03 08:08 pm UTC (link)
It's not that I'm supposed to kill them - although the Blades might tell you otherwise.
I'm supposed to protect my world from the ones that threaten our very existence. Alduin was the worst one.

I apologize for this lengthy explanation, but here it is.

The thing about the dov is... we are all prideful, dominant and power-seeking. It's in our nature, and I as the Dovahkiin am no different. I feel the raw desire for power just as intensely as one of my scaled brethren.

The difference between the dragons and myself, however, is that I can comprehend the concept of mortality. Because I am restricted to the body of a mortal. They cannot, because they were never "born". They simply are, and were. I was born. I had a childhood, and If I don't die in battle first, my life will eventually be taken by old age. I will never know what it's like to fly, and I will not live forever. And though many back home see me as a legend, and whisper my name as I pass them by, I am no god.

My people - the Nords and Atmorans; We once worshipped the dragons as gods. Some of the dragons let this power cloud their judgement and they became arrogant with their greed. They enslaved the races of man and ruled over us with an iron fist.

The goddess Kynareth took pity on us and granted a few people the ability to use the dragon's Voices against them, and commissioned Paarthurnax to teach them. Paarthurnax betrayed Alduin to do this. Those people weren't Dragonborn, but they were known as the "Tongues". These Tongues used their new knowledge to fight back, and it eventually ended in Alduin being banished with an Elder Scroll. The only reason they were able to defeat him that first time, is because they created a Shout called Dragonrend. It momentarily cripples their power to make them see the world as we do.

That same shout is what helped me defeat Alduin. Joor zah frul. He returned, as foretold by a prophecy, when my homeland was thrust into war that divided us. When the Snow Tower lies sundered, kingless, bleeding, the World-Eater wakes, and the Wheel turns upon the Last Dragonborn.

It has been the plan of Akatosh all along for me to discover my destiny and bring Alduin and his followers to justice.

I don't think you mentioned the Blades. What or who are they?

OK. I think I got this now. There are good dragons and bad dragons and this Alduin was like the worst bad dragon.

If we're not careful, I may end up writing an entire novel about the history of my homeland.
The Blades are meant to serve the Dragonborn. But when there's no Dragonborn, they instead served the Emperor of Tamriel. There's only two Blades left because the rest of them were slaughtered by an Elven faction called the Thalmor. The new "Grandmaster" of the Blades, if you can even call it that, seems to think she has a degree of authority over me.

She ordered me to kill Paarthurnax, but he's too valuable to me as an ally. She's paranoid and stubborn, and while I can admit she's "helped" me in some ways, those ways have usually been at my expense. Delphine doesn't see me as the Dragonborn, she sees me as a dragonslaying puppet to use at her disposal.

That'd be great. I'd read that and I bet a bunch of people would too.

Is she trying to help or does she just want to boss people around?

I have. I hope you have been well, too.

I am, so far as I know, the only one with the blood of a god in my world. The others were slain in battles.
