Well it's not like cold green beans are my favourite, but at least they're easy when you get home at eleven and have a six thirty start the next morning.

I just mean the idea that you made so much that there's more of it. It doesn't make sense to me.

If you don't make enough for leftovers people might not have enough to eat. I don't know, I think it's an old hospitality thing. Throwing food out is practically one of the seven deadly sins but you sure as hell don't leave anyone hungry. And that goes triple for guests.

I'm just a poor kid who's parents were never around. I still get baffled by stuff like this.

Mine were around just long enough to drill manners into me. You take care of other people when you can, then when you need it you know they'll look out for you. I doubt I would've even finished high school otherwise but my dad's old congregation knew he'd wanted me to go to college.

I try to take care of people and I have manners, there's just some things I don't know how to deal with. Like feeding people. Or breaking up with someone. Or giving the perfect gift. Or when to visit someone. I'm kind of a huge, awkward nerd. Captain America, ladies and gents.

Minister's kid isn't allowed to be any kind of awkward. I don't know if anyone knows how to break up with someone though.

Yeah, fair enough. At least when you're not actually dating yet you can ghost.

We could try to braid your hair and have pillow fights.

How are you doing with the new Bucky turning up, btw?

Shave my beard into funny shapes.

It's definitely weird having two of them. They're at least different enough that it's not a clone.

He dated his Steve for five years. And somehow that's not uncomfortable for me. I... think I could see that. Maybe. Not that I have feelings for Bucky but I could see -- with our history-- You know what? Never mind.

The internet can sure see it. No, that... kind of makes sense, I guess. People talk about timing getting in the way, like there's this window where it could have happened, but if you miss it you can't go back to it. You just fall into being friends instead, or staying friends.

I think you're barely in your thirties, not counting time spent being a human popsicle.

Can I point out we recently had a whole conversation about how it wasn't the most important thing in the world? It sounds a bit like it might be on your mind right now because of Bucky. Doesn't mean your feelings about it are less important but it might help figure out if it's something you actually want to do something about or not. I mean, hell, I know you don't like dating around anyway, but there's a lot of new people around and some of them would probably make pretty good friends, if nothing else. Even if you don't got time it doesn't mean you're gonna be alone.

No no, I know I'm not alone alone. I have family here, whether I like it or not. I have more family now in my life than I've ever had.

But yeah, Bucky had me thinking about it. I don't know if I could see myself with someone.

Good, because otherwise I'd have to smack you. You're too smart to be that stupid.

The only thing that matters is if you're okay with it, overall. It's probably normal to have what ifs every so often though.

The thing with Tony was... bad. From the Battle of NY to Ultron and then to the Accords, it just kept getting worse. We were all friends and then we were on different sides. I'm really worried Tony's going to show up.

That's just what's weird, I can't see myself with someone but apparently I was?

Gosh we talk about me a lot. I'm sorry, Sam.

Yeah, I've got mixed feelings about the possibility. The one from my world, we sorted that stuff out ages ago, him and me have been running the Avengers the last several months. The one from your world, that's a lot more issues that aren't any close to healing and most of the people we got here are the ones who disagreed with him.

You know, I don't know if you've noticed this, but you're kind of a big deal in my life.

Last I saw him, I was trying to stop him from killing Bucky... don't freak out on me for that piece of information. It's not common knowledge, at least... I don't think Bucky has told anyone outside of Natasha and me.

Apparently enough for you to spend time gossiping and analyzing me when I get neurotic. Which is always.

That whole registration argument lasted months for us. People did die. You Fuck, the thing only ended because you surrendered to stop it. I'm not that shocked.

Maybe I've just got a compulsive need to fix things.
