My name is Mycroft Holmes. Specifically, the Mycroft Holmes from BBC's Sherlock, not the U.S. version, Elementary.

Yes, I'm aware there are multiples of people present, including two pairs of Sherlocks and Watsons, and yes, I've been doing my research. There's not much else to do whist in quarantine.

For any interested parties, I was previously in Preya before I was brought to Tumbleweed.

As I write, I ought to be released from quarantine in approximately 29 hours from now. Neither my flat from London nor Preya has appeared with me, but I've been told something has been arranged. I do hope it's adequate. All that remains is to secure some sort of gainful employment which isn't too mundane.

Alas, no. I'm more of a casual spectator. Athletics were never really in my area of interest.

You don't say? Which production, and how are you two contributing?

It's a pity. I'm still hoping to put together a team, eventually.

A Christmas Carol. Sherlock is writing the music, and I'm to teach the cast to dance appropriately for the Caroli Victorian era.

Have you placed an advert over the network? That may generate interest.

You're not a professional choreographer at home?

That's an idea. I've mostly confined myself to cornering my fellow Brits as they come through.

No. Unfortunately, there are fewer openings for a practicing magician in this world.

Possibly your best course of action. There's few outside the United Kingdom who have an interest in cricket, although it is very popular in India, as well as Pakistan,, Australia, and some African states - in short former colonies of the English Commonwealth.

A magician in an entertainment, or something more substantial?

Former. They're rather forceful about that here. At least it isn't French.

Rarely substantial, I'm told, but I am fully trained.

Quite. Fanatically so. I've known a number of Americans who saw fit to remind me that if it wasn't for them, the British wouldn't have survived World War II. As if they were personally responsible.

What sort of magic do you cast?

We dodged that bullet in Twelve-A, but I understand it was an ugly time. Travel to Twelve-B was banned for the duration and for good reason.

That's a broad question. I have the general foundation. A good working knowledge is expected in my line, but I specialize in spirit traveling and interworld studies.

I'm not familiar with these terms, 'Twelve-B' and 'Twelve-B'. Please explain.

Did your studies prepare you for coming here?

The prevailing theory is that the Related Worlds all began as one. Sometime in prehistory a major catasrophe occurred - or didn't occur - and the first split began. The resulting worlds later split again as history took one path or another, and clustered into Series of worlds. In Twelve-A, the focus turned heavily toward magic. Twelve-B went industrial. They have hardly any magic there. It's a bit like this Earth, from all I can gather, at least up until the mid-fifties. I don't know beyond that. Napolean conquered Europe in Twelve-C. They speak nothing but French. There are nine known worlds in Series Twelve, and eleven other Series. It's a bit like a deck of cards, if all the worlds are cards and the Series suits - alikpe, but different. Twelve-A was home, but I've acclimatized.

The other Sherlock, not yours, asked me a similar question once. No, the existence of the Displaced and Tumbleweed break all the known rules. I know people who would jump at the chance to study it or exploit.

An interesting theory, albeit Earth-centric. Unless there's a proto-planet that is even before your known home?

Are they present in Tumbleweed?

Until I arrived here, it fit the available facts. Oh there are several here who fit the description, myself included. The ones I was thinking of are all occupied back home.

I rather like the prospect. And you, along with others, had the capacity of crossing between these worlds.

Anything we need to concern ourselves over?

Along with others, although there aren't many as capable.

Doctor Paul Simonton poses a grave danger of boring one to death over dinner, but the last old-style evil enchanter was defeated over a century ago.

Ha! How amusing. I've been unfortunate enough to have known a number of individuals such as your Doctor Simonton. Such as it is with politics.

What was your occupation in your world?

Where politics meets academic obsession it only grows worse.

Magician, spirit traveler, opera aficionado, civil servant, general prodigal.

I've never had the grave misfortune of spending too long a time with academics, but when I have I've always left the exchange reaching for a strong drink.

Which is your favorite opera? I wonder if your world has the same ones as mine?

The contemplation of it has rather the same effect now. loop

In some cases yes. In some, no. I'm very fond of the Magic Flute by Mozart, but I don't believe you have Dreschler's Josephine.

It must've been horrendous.

Joseph Drechsler? There is a composer by that name, Bohemian born. His works are not as well known today, but he performed along with the likes of Beethoven.

A shame that we live in such a small town that doesn't have an opera house, what to speak of a ballet or orchestra. I'm quite fond of the grandeur of Turandot, and the music of Puccini's La bohème.

Ours was named Friedrich. I don't believe his doubles ever quite found their niches in most worlds. He is far more celebrated in Twelve-A. A young lady of my acquaintance absolutely adored his works.

Puccini - might you mean Pettrochi? Brilliant Tuscan magician, said to have the ear of an angel.

I'm beginning to understand what you mean about the tiny differences between worlds, which you mentioned before.

May I ask who was this young lady with whom you were acquainted. Not a relative, or you would've identified her as such. But somebody closer than a mere friend?

Most have a double in each world in their series. The differences can range from small to influential. We've a rather poor Austrian painter by the name of Hitler, as well.

She was a coworker. Once upon a time, it seemed there might have been more, but life intervened. That was some time ago even in Twelve-A.

I suppose that these multiple versions of people from other universes wasn't a surprise at all for you.

WWII did not occur in Twelve-A?

I see. Life has a rude habit of doing that.
