WHO: Tara and Willow
WHEN: after the private cake party for Tara's birthday
WHERE: the streets of Tumbleweed
WHAT: The two talk about Sumerian rituals and their connection to each other.
WARNINGS: Low
STATUS: thread, incomplete

______________

After the cake, Tara felt a little older. It was strange how one tradition could make you feel like you've grown a whole year. Especially since she was already telling people she was 22. She worried about Buffy, being older and seeing so much. She could imagine what kind of hells she had to be through. Or maybe she had a normal life. Tara made a note to talk to Buffy at some point, catch up on what happened after the Hellmouth collapsed.

Tara was feeling feisty and asked Willow to go for a walk with her. Look out everyone, a walk. Part of her just enjoyed Willow's company and the other part wanted Willow to see that she loved Tara, maybe even a little bit.

They left Buffy's house and went into the streets, staying on the sidewalks. The streetlights were blinking on and Tara felt that it was a magical night. The Sumerian ritual they spoke of would be perfect for tonight. It might have to wait, but something special was bound to happen. She could feel it.

Tara turned to Willow. "Do you plan on continuing college now that you're here?"

"It's not good to get out of practice though." It was a sincere question and maybe since Tara - from what Willow could piece together - was a born witch she didn't really need to practice? However, Willow was more than sure she'd need to practice, and lots. If she wanted to make sure she was helpful to Buffy she needed to have more knowledge, more access, more ability as a whole. "A rusty magic user is no one's friend." There was a sincerity or belief there even if she still wasn't attempting to fight with the other woman all at once.

"Really?" The redhead couldn't help but perk up a bit at the notion of other magic users being around. "That would be amazing! Do we think we could do a spell swap or-or maybe like a spell potluck or something? Have everything bring a little something from their world?" It was a silly idea on some levels, but at the same time weirdly exciting all at once.

"I think they're magic is different than ours, kind of like how Harry Potter's magic is different. But there's still some fundamental basics. Practical magic." Tara unlocked the door and swung it open for Willow to walk in too.

"Maybe after the holiday, they're probably all busy having their stuff." She paused, holding her keys tightly in her hand. "You read to go do this ritual?"

"I wonder if we examined the fundamental differences occurring in practice and execution if we could find a singular common strand connecting the various world and timelines of magic, and from there we might be able to identify a similar frequency everyone is working from to utilize their spell casting. Can you imagine if we could find one greater magical continuum that could be channeled and connected into by the residents here?" Okay, even Willow could recognize the major nerd alert that sort of musing would probably cause in a mass majority of the population. Regardless, she couldn't help the clear excitement and joy streaking nakedly across her features at the thought of mixing some scientific principles in with their collection of magic users here.

Right. There was still a holiday to get through for most people, wasn't there? Okay, that took a bit of steam out of her sails but.... It didn't mean it still couldn't happen!

"Ready as an oxygen in a bar full of hydrogen!" Hopefully Tara wouldn't put too much thought into Willow's attempt at a joke otherwise she might get the fact that Willow had inadvertently made a joke about elements that bonded together in chemistry.... Or potentially hinted a threesome. Oh gods no. No, no, no, no, no, no. It took everything within her not to blush as the secondary possible unintentional meaning came to mind.

Instead? Willow would step through the door quickly, trying to shield hide her face for just a moment before feeling like she'd gotten herself back together again.

"You ready too?"

Tara just watched as Willow got so excited over magic. To Tara, magic was just something natural, something for protection. But maybe Willow saw it as a project. While the idea of having a magical get-together sounded good, it could also devolve into a magical orgy. No thanks. "Yeah, Will, maybe we could try that..."

When the joke was made, Tara covered her mouth, the grin peeking out anyway. "I'm ready." And with that, they disappeared downstairs.
