Midgardian rules for this football are exceedingly complicated. How do you know when to have three downs and when to have four?

Yeah, that's usually when it's your third time trying to make the ten yards.
First down is your first try. Second down is your second. Third down is your third. And fourth down is your final try. When they call out the downs, they'll usually also call out how far you gotta go. Like 'second and five' means you have five yards to go before you get a first down again.

Yes, that is all fine, but it says the third down is the final try to reach ten yards in some contests.

Where are you reading that says that? Or what game are you watching?

Oh. Ok, so what kinda football are you looking to learn 'bout? 'Cause that ain't the kind we play here in the US.

Which- ok, ok. Get the question more now. If you're in the US, you get four. If you're in Canada, you get three. If you're in Europe, fuck if I know, they call soccer football and it's a bunch of different rules.

And the last one, that is the one with a goalkeeper.

That does sound safer for that man or woman in question if they are three separate games.

Yeah, soccer's got goals and one goalie per team to defend their goal from getting scored on. Football we got in the US, you just gotta cross the goal line to score, not get the ball into a small spot, so you got a bunch of people just trying to stop you, but not one person whose job is just to defend the 'goal' 'cause that'd be a lot of ground for one person to cover.

They should really have separate names, my friend.

There's only one football to me. We cleared stuff up by naming the one with goals soccer. But I don't know what the Canadian football's all 'bout. Maybe you can just call theirs snowball.
