It had been a long couple of days. The fighting had been expected. They'd know there were Darkspawn in the surrounding areas. But Imenry had never been through a Blight before. She didn't know much about tainted blood or ghouls or other things. Today had been a lesson. And she'd learned that she could strike down what had been an innocent child. Though the girl had been infected, she hadn't been a monster. Killing her had been merely to end her suffering. She knew it was better this way. She told herself she'd done the right thing. But she still couldn't get the image out of her head. What kind of a person could so dispassionately lob off the head of a little girl?
Taking a deep breath, Imenry tried to focus on something else. The road back towards Redcliffe had been quiet, and so had their small group. In their own way, everyone must have been affected by what had happened there. Imenry kept close to Signy as usual, her stride matching to the dwarf's shorter one. Thankfully it was not long before Redcliffe appeared over the next hilly rise in the road.
She was ready to get washed up. The smell of burning Darkspawn still clung to her clothes. And some ash had lingered in the fabric, despite her attempts to get it off. The shirt would need a good washing, at the very least. When they reached the small village things seemed... strangely somber. People were busy of course, taking care of their daily tasks and whatever else, but she sensed something more had happened while they were gone. Signy and the other Wardens would surely be filled in, once they reported in.
At the moment though, whatever had happened in Redcliffe was not Imenry's problem. She was tired and she smelled like Darkspawn. First, back to the inn for a bath, change into her spare clothes and then maybe try to rest a bit. She really just wanted to be alone. There was so much running through her head and she didn't know who she could confide in. Signy had seemed bothered enough by the event, and she'd probably feel guilty for not taking the task on herself. So no, she couldn't mention it to her. And Signy was really the only person she'd yet confided in. Perhaps later she would seek out Hilda and speak with her. Surely she was familiar with ghouls, living with the constant Darkspawn threat.
Decided, she glanced down at her small Warden friend. "I'm going to head back to the inn. I'll catch up with you later." Without another word she turned to make her way down the path towards the city's central area so that she could head towards the inn. She wasn't paying all that much attention as she walked along, intent on reaching goal, until she crossed over the second of the small stone bridges and gazed out across the center of the town. Directly in front of her stood a ghost...
Or a man who should have been a ghost. A man she thought long dead. Imenry forgot about the inn, forgot about the child, forgot about being tired.
And she simply stared at him in shock.
