Falina thumped her pack heavily against the bed, watching as the coverlet sunk beneath it's weight. She wished she wouldn't have to break in her new boots, but she could always change midday, should they give her trouble. Shartan was wriggling on the bed, his dark eyes glinting in the early light. He looked contented, stretching luxuriously over the sheets, wrinkling them beneath his massive body... scattering the neat bed that she'd just made. She glared at the Mabari, narrowing her eyes playfully; her only response was a large yawn, and a wiggling nub tail.
The girl laughed, before taking a quick inventory of the small room. She didn't have much, and rarely did any of her possessions leave the pack. It was really just waiting now, and Falina hated waiting. It left too much time for introspection, and there was too much to think about. Things were dark, and growing darker by the day. She hated to think of where she was going, and whom she was leaving behind.
It seemed too much to abandon new friends in anticipation of the rolling Blight; but in the wake of losing a dozen recruits, perhaps it hadn't been easy for Alistair to separate them. Desperately, Falina wanted Rhocanth and Imenry with her. She had Cormac and Ordhan, but she needed Rho's warm familiarity, and Imenry's surprising tenderness. The woman had been kind, and Falina would miss her.
Leaving Amarathine was harder than leaving home, and that spoke to some deep part of her. She recognized it as loss, and while she didn't know (or care) about all the people she had met, it was possible that she'd never see any of them again.
