Kimberly needed a minute to herself. She loved Kevin, really, but with the new development of someone in the house from that movie — she couldn't even make herself say it, most days, because just the thought made her uncomfortable — combined with the fact that he'd made it his mission the previous night to go help them just had Kimberly entirely too caught in her own thoughts. Between watching the character with Kevin's face die and Silent Hill watching Kevin himself die, all the memories flooding back at her at the mere mention of Red Dawn was a little too much. So Kimberly decided to do some relatively safe exploring. By relatively safe, of course, she meant staying strictly on the sixth floor, not that there was much to explore save bedrooms. Except, Kimberly found that there was a new room she hadn't noticed yet. The door looked the same as all the others on the floor, except it was the only one without a number on the front. Looking over her shoulder, Kimberly's hand hovered over the knob for a moment before her curiosity got the better of her and she turned it.
The second the knob turned, the door swung open and the sensation of having been swept inside overcame her. Kimberly startled when the door slammed itself behind her, but she was too distracted by the spectacle before her to be terribly concerned with the door. There was something slightly disconcerting about how she instantly felt more physically relaxed. Kimberly felt a lazy grin sliding over her lips as her shoulders slumped and her feet dragged as her body seemed to propel itself forward into the carnival. Silent Hill and Red Dawn faded from her mind and she found herself both comforted and lifted by the scent of cotton candy and popcorn in the air. The sounds of rides in motion that normally would've set her on edge drew her in further. The rickety clacking of gears that should have sent chills of fear down Kimberly's spine instead called to her, but not loudly enough to deter her from the cotton candy that seemed all too compelling to ignore, even temporarily.
At first, Kimberly just moved lazily through the park, snacking on the cotton candy and taking in the sights. The music from the carousel tinkled playfully in her ears and drove out any lingering thoughts of the newbie from Red Dawn and how Kevin's offer to help had drawn Kimberly back into that dark place she'd been trying to avoid since the minute their first viewing of the damn movie had ended. She wasn't actually sure how long she'd been in the room by the time she all but floated her way onto the Ferris wheel. It didn't occur to her to be afraid of the height or the way the thing jerked slightly as it lifted. In fact, it didn't occur to Kimberly to notice anything other than how pretty the park looked from up so high above it all.
The lights were blinking more slowly; the carousel's music seemed to drawl rather than tinkle. Kimberly felt the worries of the world — the worries of the house and her life outside it...or lack thereof — melt away and her limbs seemed to relax themselves into nearly a spaghetti-like limpness to match. At least...it felt like that. The air was beginning to feel a little thicker and after a while, Kimberly had her a-ha moment, realizing that she knew this feeling. She knew this feeling well, actually. Kimberly was totally stoned. And when the realization hit, she let out a quick bark of laughter, disembarking from the Ferris wheel once it reached the bottom again. "See, Frankie, I can get baked with the best of 'em and I don't even have to try," she mumbled stupidly to herself before breaking into a fit of giggles that made her face and stomach ache as she leaned against the nearest attraction, doubling over with laughter, unable to stop herself, until she was gasping, breathless with it.
Between the fit of laughter and the sounds of the carnival raging on around her, unfortunately, Kimberly competely missed the echoing sound of babies crying...
