Character Development Exercises Here are some prompts to be used at will to help you develop your character, which should always be fun rather than a chore! So, feel free to respond to any of these and post them in thebefore with the name of the prompt mentioned somewhere in the title of the post. → WANDS » We all know the wand chooses the wizard. So, how did your wand chose you? What was the process like finding that perfect fit? → THE SORTING HAT » The sorting ceremony is an event of epic proportions for eager and nervous first years, what did your character experience? What did the hat see inside their head? Go ahead, set the scene for us. → HEART'S DESIRE » Okay, so your character may not have actually found the Mirror of Erised during their stay at Hogwarts, but what if they did? What would they see? → SEVEN THINGS » So, let's face it, not everything makes it into profiles or applications, it is a given and hopefully you have lots of fun facts about your kid floating around your head, so why not share them? Give us seven random facts that everyone knows about your character, seven that only friends would know and seven that only the character knows. → THE PENSIEVE » There are often a lot of small moments that define our characters, moments or sequences that made them who they are today. And many of these moments may only be hinted at in game play, so why not share a defining moment? → MEET THE FAMILY » Love them or hate them, family tends to have a strong hand in the people we become. What was your character's family like? Who had the most affect on his/her world view? What was a family dinner like? Where there ever family dinners? How about holidays? And did the character ever try to rebel against his/her upbringing or it too deeply ingrained? → SECRETS » What are five things you character hopes that no one ever finds out about? Yes, we are looking for dirt. → FEARS » Does your character have any fears (rational or irrational)? What are they and are there any good tales about facing the fear or why it developed? → LOSS » What is the worse pain or loss your character has suffered? Describe it. → 44 Questions » Answer the following questions in character: → STANDINGS » Where does your character stand in regards to: Food? Health? Religion? Politics? Education? War? Death? Friendships? Love? Sexuality? Relationships? Sex? Self-Image? → TEN FOR TEN » Open your favorite music player. Set it to random/shuffle and hit play. Write a drabble for the song while it is playing. Repeat 10 times. |
