PSA guys. Listen, I'm not blaming anyone here. But just in case you were thinking about dog-earing the pages of your library books: don't.
Is using a bookmark really that hard?

I know. Way to ruin a perfectly good page!

More akin to ruining the whole book. The pages will never lay nice and neat ever again.

Exactly. I can try all I want to flatten them, but a folded corner will always leave a bump when the book's closed. It's a damn shame.

So you can appreciate proper book-care, eh? Are you a literature aficionado yourself?

Indeed.

I am a scholar. Back in my home world I have many texts in my collection.

Really? What kind of texts did you have?

Several. Many were of the magic of my world, bestiaries, history, politics, geography, whatever I deemed interesting enough to want.

That's amazing! What's the strangest book in your collection?

What is your definition of strange?

Thank you. It’s not the end of the world, but I appreciate your honesty. Do you come in regularly? I can print out a custom bookmark for you 😉

Next time you come in, say hi and we'll borrow the printer to make you a sheet of cool bookmarks.

Oh yeah? What have you been reading?

Yeah! It's just hard because there's so many big words.

What if you don't have a bookmark? Or if you want to save that page forever?

Then buy your own book to mutilate. The library books are public domain and the next person to check out a volume shouldn’t need to worry about creases.

If this is mutilation then what do you call tearing the pages out of a book? In my opinion a folded bag just goes to show how much time that person spent on that page.

A fucking sin? Why would you tear pages out of a book?

In my opinion, a folded page means someone was too lazy to get a notecard to mark their spot. If it's your own book, fine. But library books are a different story altogether.

So other people can't have them. It's better than burning it.

If you get so worked up about the fold just fix it.

Burning it? You're joking with me. What are you trying to keep from people, military defense plans? If I catch you burning library books, I will personally deliver you the mother of all fines and a sternly worded letter.

Like Kuja said, it still leaves a crease. Or in the worst case scenario, tears.

Why would I burn a library book? I don't even go to the library. I was just speaking hypothetically.

No I mean, you don't have magic do you. I know a spell that mends things, like folded or torn pages. So I guess I just never really thought of it as a big deal.

Thank God. You almost gave me a heart attack.

Nope. I'm as ordinary as they come. Some kind of wizard magic like that would be useful, though. But unless someone with a fix-it spell shows up at the library, it's up to some good old-fashioned elbow grease to flatten these creases.

Why would you think I'd burn library books? Do people do that here?

Oh, I'd offer to teach you, but I think you'd need magic... Is there no magic users at the library?

Last month there were phantom trains running through town that may or may not have anything to do with the interdimensional portal. I'm not assuming anything anymore.

Yeah, that's a nonstarter. Sure there are, but I haven't noticed them fixing little book creases on my shift. I can understand why, though. Even if they're able to, it can get busy.

That is true. I guess I'm just used to some craziness in life.

Apparently the internet says to try ironing the page against a flat surface.
