Eric had had a difficult time hunting tonight. The animals had been scarce, as though they were in hiding. Nothing was different, as far as he could tell, so he didn't understand why. Because of this, he'd had only gotten back to the cave around 15 or 20 minutes ago. He sat watching Sookie sleep, a smile on his face. He couldn't remember ever being this content with a woman before. He stroked her hair gently and got up to go start skinning the animals he'd managed to catch.

When he got outside, he felt uneasy. SOMETHING was wrong. It took him a few seconds to process that the night was completely silent. Animals and insects were making no noise. Before he could consider the implications of this, he picked up a faint rumbling that turned rapidly into a moderate roar. He started to turn toward the sound when he was jolted off his feet.

'Sookie!' he shouted, scrambling toward the cave. He couldn't walk normally, so he bear crawled into the cave. He had no idea if the cave would hold, so he grabbed her and hurried outside. The area was clear, and being near the highest point, there was nothing to fall on them, so they were safe.

He sank to the ground to ride out the shaking that seemed ceaseless, though it lasted just shy of one minute, and breathed out a curse in Swedish. On the other side of the island, aways offshore from the beach, magma was spewing into the air. 'Holy shit...'

Eric held her close, stroking her hair. 'This place gets freakier and freakier,' he said. He watched the villagers congregating on the beach below. He had no intentions of going down to them. He could see Joe Kalili with them; they were in good hands. He didn't see Niklaus, which was a bit worriesome.

'Oh. There's a new vampire on the island. His name is Niklaus Mikaelson. Or Klaus, I guess now. I want you to stay away from him. He can be charming as hell, and twice as dangerous. He's part vampire and part werewolf, so you may or may not be able to read his thoughts. He's been warned away from you, and Elena. But he's not above finding loopholes to suit his whims.'

	Sookie relaxed under the hair stroking and looked down at the beach. "We don't have to go down there do we?" She snuggled into Eric again. "Klaus, got it. I will make sure I stay away from him." Which was true, except Sookie still had a habit of just absolutely attracting danger. "Hopefully, since he's not from our world, he won't smell the fairy in me." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Eric shook his head. 'Nope. I have no intentions of it. Especially since the sun comes up fairly soon.' He held her close against him, protectively.

'I hope he doesn't. I know Damon doesn't. But he's also not part were-wolf. One thing to know about Klaus, there's no way to kill him.'

There was a way, but not here on this island. 'I'm sort of tempted to see if that volcano would do it, though,' he admitted.

She sighed when he pulled her close, nuzzling against him. "I will avoid him though. He must be unpleasant if you want to kill him."

She wondered where her friend the bear was briefly and then looked up at Eric. "Why is this Klaus so bad? I want to know why I need to avoid him. Just so I know what I am getting myself into."

Sookie was contemplating what to do for the day, probably sleep and then she frowned. "Is he a day walker like that Damon??"

'It's less that he's unpleasant and more that he's extremely dangerous,' Eric replied. He led her back into the cave as the sky began to brighten. There was still an hour or so before he'd have to head into the ground, although he did move the larger "lean-to" that blocked much of the sun from the cave.

'Klaus is part were-wolf. Being half were and half vampire, the most negative effects of each are cancelled out. He can walk in the sun, and he's not forced to change each full moon.' He settled into one of the chairs he'd made, which had been draped with a wolf pelt to protect against splinters, and reached out to Sookie, wanting her to sit on his lap.

'Klaus is very clever, very vicious, very spoiled, and very egotistical. He is unrepentant, and has no qualms about hurting whomever he needs to to get what he wants. It's entirely possible once he finds out how important you are to me that he'd try to use you in some way. We were friends, centuries ago. Good friends. But when I found out he was part werewolf...' Eric shook his head. 'With what they did to my family, I can never be friends with a filthy mongrel... even if he's only partly one.'

	Sookie took it all in and let Eric pull her into his lap. "So, avoid." She kissed him. "I promise I'll do my best to stay away from him Eric. "I don't want anymore bad people after me." She laid her head against his chest, hugging him. "Why does this island have to let the bad in?" She was speaking aloud, rhetorically. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

'Perhaps the question should be, Why doesn't this island ONLY let the bad in?' He kissed the side of her neck.

'Problem is, good and bad aren't always so clearcut. Between me and Bill, I think you know that. You thought he was good and I was bad. People are never all good or all bad. And, since vampires are people too--or were before we were changed--no vampire is all good or all bad.'

	Sookie smiled. "Why are you always so smart?" She kissed him softly. "I hate that I made the mistake that you were bad. Missed out on years of fun." She giggled at him. Sookie stared off into the ocean at the volcano. "This is so weird." (Reply to this) (Parent)
