Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Character(s): Eric Northman & Elena Gilbert
Rating: 13+
Cautions/Warnings: language
Location: beach near the huts
Approximate Date: Starts Eric's 2nd night on the island.
Status: Completed

Eric pulled himself up out of the ground. He brushed the dirt out of his hair and from his clothes and headed north. He'd heard a lot of creatures in the woods when he was seeking a place to rest, and now it was time to hunt. He wasn't fond of animal blood, but it was far better than Tru Blood, by a long-shot.

He wasn't as fast as he normally was. He wasn't slow, but it was a noticeable difference--by almost half. Even so, before long he was draining the blood from a wolf. When he finished, he skinned the carcass. He no longer ate meat, but fur was always useful. Even if it wasn't cold here, it might turn, and if nothing else, humans enjoyed it--he could barter with it.

The lessons he'd learnt as a viking, hunting and trapping, felling trees in order to build fires and shelter, and fashioning something useful from nothing at all came in handy now. He was a bit frustrated--okay, EXTREMELY frustrated--that he had no axe. His knife wasn't going to be much use. So he'd had to opt for collecting fallen limbs, vines, and long grasses. He set to work bundling them together. He kept an eye on the eastern sky and once the inky black lightened to a royal purple, he abandoned the task in order to dig his hole for the night. The cave faced east, but was deep enough that the very back never got more than a tiny bit of sunlight. Even so, he settled into the ground, lest the bleeds come.

The following evening, he resumed his task. He climbed from the hole and froze. Sometime during the day a small shovel, an axe, an adz, and a maul had appeared in the cave, along with a large measure of what appeared to be hemp twine.

He stared in disbelief for a very long moment, before grabbing them and going to work. Within hours he'd finished a lean-to. He would need to build a bucket, but for now, he managed a crude bowl. He hurried to the water where he scooped up a bowlful. Once he was back in the cave, he mixed up a thick paste of mud and coated the lean-to, then laid grass over it, pressing it in. He'd need to do that again periodically, but it was a decent wind and weather screen now, and would also shield him from daylight.

He dug a fire pit, then a better hole in the ground for sleep. He didn't need to cover himself--he simply needed to be below ground.

Finally, with a few hours of night left, he set out to explore. He approached the quiet beach with the huts, walking quietly and keeping an eye and ear open for signs of others.

"Out of the coffin. A play on "out of the closet". From the Great Revelation, when vampires made their existence known to humans?' he said. How the hell had this girl missed it. Unless she didn't watch any tv, never went to church, and hadn't picked up a newspaper or magazine in who knew how long. The Great Revelation was mid-08, and it was unlikely that she'd been so isolated for 3 1/2 years.

He tilted his head curiously. 'Vervain?' he asked. He'd heard of the plant, but it held no special meaning to him. He wondered why she took care to mention it to him.

"The Great Revelation?" Elena shook her head a little, eyes still carefully fixed on Eric's movement. While he may have speed on his side, as well as agility, and super human senses, oh and the strength of at least five of him, okay Elena had to admit that he had all the advantage in the situation, but at least she knew all of his tricks? That had to count for something at least, "Look I have no idea what you're talking about, but where I'm from? Vampires stick to the shadows. You're not public. You're the opposite."

The more Eric said, the more confused Elena got. So he came from a place where vampires were out in the open, and he didn't know what vervain was. She had no idea what was going on, but she reached behind her neck and undid the clasp on the necklace. She held onto the top of the chain tightly, and stretched her arm out towards the other as she stepped close enough that Eric could take the necklace from her. Deliberately offering the pendant to him, she watched with curiosity as she spoke.

"Here, take it."

Eric laughed softly. 'These days, vampires don't stick to the shadows. We're not daywalkers, since the sun still burns us, but we live openly. My bar even welcomes humans.'

He took the necklace from her and looked at it then passed it back. 'Interesting.' He folded his arms over his chest. 'So. Where you come from, vampires exist secretly. Which means that most folks don't know about us. So why is it that YOU know about us?' he asked.

Elena couldn't help the visible shock that crossed her face as Eric took the necklace without any reaction, and the hand that took it back was even shaking slightly. He was a vampire, yet the vervain within the pendant seemed to have no effect whatsoever. Putting it back on quickly, she wondered if that meant that she could be compelled, and all attempts at eye contact quickly ceased. Staring down at her feet, Elena fiddled with the hem of her dress uncomfortably as she gave a shrug to his question.

"It's kind of a long story, I guess. There's lots of them in my town though. Mystic Falls, I don't know if you'd have heard of it..." she let out a slow breath, then looked back up, though eye contact still wasn't going to happen. If she was going to hold on to any last line of defence, it would be that. Silently wishing that she had Stefan or Damon here with her, she bit her lower lip lightly before adding in a small mumble, "Some are my friends...boyfriend."

Elena's attempts to avoid eye contact were adorable. He was torn between letting her think she could avoid it, and asserting dominance. His gaze followed her hand as it moved to the hem of her dress. She wasn't as tall or curvy as Sookie, but Miss Elena Gilbert was indeed still attractive.

He reached out and pulled her to him, tipping her head up and bending, to force eye contact. 'You can't avoid it if I want it,' he said quietly.

Elena bit down harder on her lip as Eric tipped her head up, and kept her eyes firmly averted to the side. If eye contact was the only thing preventing him from compelling her, then there was no way that there eyes were about to meet - and she wasn't stupid, she did know that it didn't rely solely on the eye contact but she needed to hold onto something.

"You just watch me," she added, voice far more sure and steady than she herself felt. It was a strange feeling, being so vulnerable to a strangers whims, and she hadn't really experienced that in a long time. It was awful. "If I don't want to look at you, I sure as hell don't have to Eric."

'You remind me of another human I knew. Well... she wasn't strictly human, but that's beside the point. She was adorably willful too. All I need is a half a second's glimpse, Elena' he said. 'Now, at the moment I have no need to glamour you. And no desire to, except perhaps to prove that I can. And Elena--I'm over 1100 years old. I'm a very patient man.'

He leaned in further and pressed his lips to her neck, not biting, simply kissing--mainly to be an asshole.

"You remind me of another vampire I used to know," Elena retorted, tilting her head away and frowning as she finally just closed her eyes. This had become about much more than just avoiding eye contact now. It was about the refusal to let any person- vampire or not - to manipulate her without permission, "Have fun waiting then."

She visibly froze up as she felt his lips on her neck, and winced in anticipation of the inevitable sharp pain that was surely coming. ...Only it didn't, and she opened her eyes again out of surprise. "What are you doing?"

He smirked. 'I'm sure he'd be pleased to be compared to me,' he said. He teased her neck with his lips and tongue when he felt her tense. 'You should relax. Being bitten hurts much less when you do. And to answer your question, I'm kissing you. Surely a girl as pretty as you--even if you are a bit thin--has been kissed?' he asked, his lips now hovering centimeters from hers.

"He'd either kill you or be your best friend," Elena shot back quickly, attitude very evident in her voice as she felt Eric's tongue against her neck, and her shoulders hunched slightly. This was in every way a bad idea. She should have just ran when she saw he was a vampire, she had to stop involving herself in all this stupid vampire business.

And then Eric was close enough to kiss her, and her eyes widened slightly. Her surprise was very obvious, and her gaze locked on Eric's finally as she looked at him. "..Yes," she mumbled in response, then bit her lower lip. "If you're going to bite me, get on with it please."

Eric laughed softly. 'Bite you? No my love. Not now anyways.' When she met his eyes finally, he didn't glamour her--he'd been truthful when he said he had no need of it. Instead, he bent his head and brushed his lips to hers.

He kissed her fully before pulling away and staring at her. He leaned in again, but a flash of pink in the corner of his eye made him freeze. Dammnit! He'd forgotten to watch the sky. 'I have to go,' he said, his voice raspy. He hurried away at top speed, not wanting to risk being caught outside when the sun's rays cast their bright, and painful, glare over the island.

Elena didn't react at all. She didn't kiss back, lean into it in any way, but she also didn't try to move away either. As Eric pulled back she opened her mouth to speak, only to close it back up again in surprise at Eric's hasty farewell.

Unsurprising of vampires, he disappeared before she really even had time to register what was going on, and it took a few seconds for the rising sun to catch her own eye. Oh. With a tiny sigh she dropped down into a sitting position on the sand and rest her head in her hands. Barely hours into her arrival on some strange new island, and she had already managed to...acquaint herself with yet another vampire. Good going Elena, really.
