MOON FOLKLORE
MOON FOLKLORE
There is a wealth osf folklore associated with the Moon. Traditionally, each of the first 10 days from the New Moon is considered to have his own attributes.
The first:A good day for new beginnings. To fall ill on this day it meant it would last a long while. A child born at this time will be happy, prosperous and live long.
The Second: A good day for buying and selling, and for starting a voyage at sea. A good time for hoeing and sowing
The third: Crimes commited on this day are likely to be found out.
The fourth: A good day for building, construction and home renovations. Also a good day to be born on if you want to enter politics.
The fifth: The weather on this day gives an indication of what to expect the rest of the month.
The sixth: The best day for hunting and fishing.
The seventh: A good day for meeting and falling in love.
The eighth: A sickness begun on this day was thought to be likely to cause death.
The ninth: If the moon shines on your face you may have twisted features or go mad.
The tenth: People born on this day are likely to be travellers or have a restless spirit.
A New Moon on a Saturday or Sunday indicates rain, as does seeing the outline of the Moon at the same time as a New Moon. Furthermore, should the horns of a New Moon point upwards then the weather will be fair for the next Lunar Cycle, if they point down, then expect rain.
