Remus could have stayed that way forever. All the emotions and feelings that he'd been wanting to express for so long were bubbling up to the surface, begging to be released. He loved Sirius deeply, and was beginning to believe that maybe, just maybe, his heart could mend.
But when Sirius drew back, shaking, Remus knew he'd put too much pressure on that sweet, tender kiss. There was too much weight pressing down on it, too many hopes riding on that one gesture of affection. They still had to figure out what was going on with Sirius before they could even begin to understand what that kiss really meant.
Right now he just needed to reassure him that it was all right, that nothing was ruined. Remus reached out to take the hand that Sirius ran over his face, and kept his other arm wrapped around him. "Nothing is ruined," he said softly. "Nothing will ever be ruined between us. It was wonderful, and that's how I'll always remember it."
