It was painful to sit there and hold Sirius without being able to really hold him the way he wanted to. Every instinct in his body, centered around his heart, was telling him to brush his lips against the other boy's forehead, to caress him rather than just pet him, to be affectionate and loving, rather than just his best mate. But Remus had to remind himself that he ought to just be grateful to have a best mate at all. That was something people like him just didn't have. How could he be so selfish?
"I won't leave," he said quietly. It wasn't like Sirius to be so openly vulnerable, and while Remus knew it was because of the situation, he also felt a bit.. closer to him for it. Sirius wouldn't allow just anyone to see him that way. At least, he didn't think so. "Just try to relax, Padfoot. You're safe."
