Narcissa didn't dare hope that the parcel he continued to play with could be meant for her. She had hoped he would bring a gift to make up for his actions, but that was just a wishful fantasy. Or was it? She watched as he walked closer to her, the package between the two as she gazed up at him.
"It must have been very important reasons then," she said, nodding her head slightly, her eyes never leaving his. "It isn't every night the Head Boy sneaks off to have a tumble with a blood traitor." She sneered at the last part, her derision broken for a moment. Of all the things that had happened between the two of them, this was the thing that hurt the most. How could he have betrayed her like this? Sirius was an obvious insult not only to herself, but to her whole family. What was he trying to say when he took it upon himself to bed the damn fellow? She finally dropped her eyes, breaking the gaze that was so intent, looking down at her lap.
"How could you Lucius?" she asked, her voice just above a whisper. "I thought...I thought that..." She couldn't finish the sentence for fear she would really make a fool out of herself now. What had she thought? That he might return the feelings she had for him? That there was a possibility of something happening between the two of them? That was silly. The only interaction they had had the whole year was the playful bit in the common room. She was beginning to see that it was probably a game he played with many students. There was nothing special about her.
She shifted on the desk, leaning forward with her own smirk on her face. "Severus is indeed a gentleman and I'm happy to have gone with him. I had hopes another would ask me, but now I can see it would have been a mistake." Again, her cold eyes flashed to his, not before looking again at the opening in his shirt. Dear Salazar, must he be so desirable?
