Rules of the party:
1) No alcohol [personal belongings will not be checked for contraband, however].
2) Dates are mandatory until 8 pm.
3) After 8 pm, The Terrible Teaspoons will play until midnight, when the party is over.
4) Morning classes are suspended on Monday. Classes will resume after lunch.
5) Keep snogging to a respectable minimum, and out of the centre of the party.
6) NO FORNICATION!! [Professors, Heads, and Prefects will not be doing castle rounds tonight, however].

	Regulus sighed. He liked pretending, even for a second, that Sirius still wanted to be his brother. "Yes, I'm all grown up now," he muttered, "Good of you to notice." He picked up an eclair, but only stared at it. It was more something to occupy his hands and eyes with to avoid his brother's smarmy grin. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Something was odd. Regulus was supposed to be giving as good as he got. That was how this worked! They sparred, cutting and feinting at each other, making the encounter last as long as possible. Sirius didn't want to leave, but if Regulus didn't fight back then how could he justify staying?

"Too bad your head never grew," he said. It must have been one of his feeblest insults to date.

	Sirius grinned, glad Reg had decided to keep it going, even if it was just to mock his terrible insult. "Old age Reggie, it sneaks up on you. 	Regulus raised his eyebrows, a bit taken aback. He had only been kidding about Sirius's bad hygiene. "What's eating you?," Regulus glanced quickly to check on Parkinson, who had found another Slytherin girl to chat with. Thankfully. Sirius faltered when Regulus seemed actually surprised by his outburst. Maybe he'd read a little too much into his comment...

"Nothing." Sirius looked at Regulus carefully. The strangest thing about this was that his brother honestly seemed to care that he was angry. "Sorry. You know me, shortest fuse on the family tree, and considering some of the people we're related too that is actually an accomplishment."

Sirius took it gingerly, wondering where this sudden show of familial affection was coming from. Not that he minded, quite the contrary. He'd always hoped that Reg would ignore their mothers blanket ban on all things Sirius. Honestly, he missed the kid. At least before he'd been kicked out he could at least see him over the summers.

Regulus had never really given up on his brother the way his parents seemingly had, though he did keep quiet. He'd always secretly hoped his brother would come back home and things could be the way they used to be.

But he knew it wouldn't. Because of James Potter, who had stolen his brother from him.

"Just.." Regulus shrugged. What was there to tell? "The usual I guess." He hadn't expected his brother to engage him in actual conversation. "And you? You seem put off."

It was somewhat unsettling to have Sirius suddenly concerned, after having abandoned and ignored his little brother for years. Regulus felt that familiar sting in his stomach, a bit of anger mixed with betrayal and longing.

"Since when do you care what happens at home?" he started, then stopped himself. Sirius had shown concern, and Regulus simply didn't know how to handle it. "I mean-" but he really didn't know what he meant. "They're just like you left them, I guess."

	He understood Regulus' confusion. Hell, he felt it himself! This whole thing was incredibly bizare. But, he honestly did care what happened to the kid. Even if Reg hated him, they were still brothers. "Gee, that's rough kid." He tried for a smile, and even though it felt forced it was better than nothing. Regulus shrugged. "Maybe when she dies," he muttered, stuffing his hands in his pockets. Then he grinned a bit. "No, I'm sure she'll find a way to bitch even then."

Walburga had always been hard on her sons. When Sirius was the heir, she'd always yelled at Regulus that he needed to be better, live up to Sirius's standards. That had all changed the instant Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor. Then, suddenly, he was the prodigal son that could do no wrong. The pressure was still there, of course. Still needed to be better than Sirius, but now it was even more intense. To score lower than Sirius meant punishment. To lose a Quidditch match to SIrius's team? More punishment. Regulus simply didn't talk about those things. If he ever got a howler, he'd grab the envelope and race with it to the hall, where he could hear her screams alone.

Despite it all, he'd never hated his brother. But he knew Sirius hated him. Because to SIrius, Regulus represented everything he hated. Because Regulus was too afraid to leave.
