Rules of the party:
1) No alcohol [personal belongings will not be checked for contraband, however].
2) Dates are mandatory until 8 pm.
3) After 8 pm, The Terrible Teaspoons will play until midnight, when the party is over.
4) Morning classes are suspended on Monday. Classes will resume after lunch.
5) Keep snogging to a respectable minimum, and out of the centre of the party.
6) NO FORNICATION!! [Professors, Heads, and Prefects will not be doing castle rounds tonight, however].

Lily laughed, shaking her head. She shouldn't have been surprised or embarrassed really. Still, it was cute that he thought it was the best thing. "Do you think I can do anything to make you think I'm disgusting or strange?" She grinned, almost hoping there wasn't anything. Which was a ridiculous thought and she knew completely unrealistic. Besides, why would she want that? She didn't want to be pampered or smothered like that. She just wanted someone to like her for who she was. And James was starting to be that kind of guy.

Lily followed him out onto the dance floor and was ready to boogy when he stood in front of her with his arms positioned to do a sort of...waltz maybe? Lily wasn't familiar with the more traditional dance and her face showed that. "Um, unfortunately I don't know any," she said, surprised that he did. "I'm more of a dance around in my room kind of girl. You know, arms in the arm, hair whipping back and forth." She hadn't thought that she might need to know how to dance a more traditional ballroom dance. She looked around at the other students and they seemed to be doing that sort of dance as well.

"Um, do you think you can teach me?" she asked, looking at him. "Is it hard?"

James felt a little foolish for having presumed. He took a few seconds to think about the situation before giving Lily a thoughtful look. "Well it's a bit difficult, but if you're willing to try, I can lead you pretty easily. Just follow my steps and you'll do all right." He infused as much confidence into his words as he could, hoping to convince her that he would be an able teacher. It meant surprisingly more to him than he thought, being able to dance with Lily. A small part of his mind would be appeased and he would feel like they were actually a couple, doing a very couple thing.

Lily hesitated before answering. While she had asked him to teach her how to dance, she was beginning to have second thoughts. James didn't seem like the kind of guy who knew how to take ballroom dance seriously, would he really be able to teach her? He looked so eager to do it though, she didn't want to let him down.

"Ok, but you can't hate me if I step on your toes a couple of times. It's bound to happen and these are very pointy heels!" She smiled and stepped closer to him, lightly putting her hand in his. She felt his arm go to her waist and couldn't help but give a small shiver. It felt...comfortable. Nice.

The first few turns were a little shaky. She couldn't quite get the rhythm and her eyes stayed on their feet most of the time. But when she finally got the movement, she looked up at him, beaming. "I'm doing it!" she said, laughing.

James grinned as she allowed him to teach her. "Don't worry, I've been told that my feet are as insensitive as my mouth, so..." He then took her through the twirls and wide turns of the dance, happy to see her so into it and enjoying herself. That's all he ever really wanted from Lily, to see her smile and laugh with him, to know that he was making her happy in some small way.

As the music faded out and shifted to a slow-paced piece, James felt himself falling into Lily's gaze, proverbially tripping himself over her beauty and wit and charm, and enjoying every minute of it. He started to lean down before he realised it, so very infatuated with her that he tried to capture the moment with his lips, which landed softly on hers. The entire room faded and all that existed was Lily. Her softness, her smell, her positive aura, everything was surrounding him in Lily.

She couldn't help but laugh at his jokes. What might have annoyed her before brought a smile to her face. Could it be that she was beginning to fall for James Potter? She looked up at him, her eyes staring into his. He seemed so serious right now, something she had rarely seen before. It was that moment when everything else seemed to dissolve around her as the music slowed and his face started to come closer and closer to her before he gave her the smallest of kisses.

She smiled into it, not finding it at all disgusting. Her arms moved out of the traditional pose to wrap around his neck, moving herself closer to him. This night wasn't as terrible as she had thought. James seemed like such a sure guy and came across very sweet. Where had this side of him been all 6 years that she had known him?

"Thank you for tonight," she said. "I've been having a great time."

	Sirius couldn't believe his eyes. James and Lily, laughing, dancing, and dear Merlin had Prongs just kissed her! He couldn't help it, he really, really couldn't help it. The music had shifted into high gear, and before he knew it Sirius was dancing Lily out of James' grasp with a shit-eating grin. "Mind if I cut in mate? Ta!" (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Just as he was enjoying the arms that wrapped around his neck and the closeness of Lily, she was snatched away, just like that. By Sirius, no less! James stood there inelegantly spluttering, watching his best mate take away his date for a dance. Sirius was out of his mind. That had to be it.

Even still, James was surrounded by a ridiculous aura that Lily had left behind, the glazed look in his eyes and the limpness of his limbs attesting to the fact that he was hooked.

Just as soon as she was beginning to get comfortable with James, she found herself being pulled away from Sirius, the two of them spinning away from James. She couldn't help but laugh at the look on James face, giving him a small shrug as if to say 'sorry'. She looked up at Sirius, raising an eyebrow.

"Quite a way to cut in on your best mate, especially when he was getting a little action," she said teasing. "You probably won't hear then end of that."

She grinned and shrugged a little. "Yeah, it's actually been really nice. He's been quite the gentleman and actually taught me how to do this kind of traditional dancing. He's actually really good at it too! I had no idea." They took a turn, passing by friends who were having a good time, other students who were laughing.

"Other than the decorations of this place, it's actually a good dance. Where's your lucky winner of the raffle?" She looked around for the girl that had become popular through Sirius' journal entry.

Sirius pointed to a small table where Li was sipping a drink and chatting with some other Ravenclaw girls.

"I took her on a few turns of the dance floor already, but she's a shy thing and there were too many people looking at us. She needed a break."

He grinned mischieviously, then whirrled Lily into a complicated dip, before snapping her back up with a flourish,

"Besdies, I wanted to dance with you!"

Lily turned to look where he pointing and saw the girl surrounded by a bunch of girls. She didn't like the way they were looking at herself and Sirius, so she turned her attention back to Sirius. "Slight her already?" she asked. "She doesn't look too happy!" He mentioned how shy she seemed and she shrugged. "Maybe she was still in shock from winning your raffle and needs a little more time to warm up. She doesn't look too happy that you stepped in to dance with me!"

Lily laughed as Sirius dipped her, coming back up to give him a swat on the shoulder. "Let me know when you want to do that!" she said. "I could have lost a shoe! Not that I really would have minded...these things are terrible!" They whirled around a little more, the room spinning around them.

"If it wasn't for James, you know I would have entered that raffle myself! And I would have rigged it so I would have won. Then we would have been the envy of the whole dance. Did you know at muggle schools they crown a queen and a king? That would have been us!"

Sirius laughed. Lily was alright. It was odd, actually, to be thinking of her as a person in her own right. She had always just been Snapes friend, or the girl that James was stupid for. But the more he got to know her the more he realized how clever she was, and how funny. He could almost envy James.

"Hell yes we would!" He waggled his eyebrows. "We are the dishyest bloke and bird at this school, after all."
