Who: Amycus and Rodolphus, Rabastan can come in near the end
What: Traps, a confrontation and maybe even a fight
When: After this thread
Where: Lestrange Manor
Rating: PG-13 (at least)
Status: Incomplete

Amycus had apparated directly into his bedroom at Lestrange Manor after he and Bellatrix had finished eating and catching up. He couldn't be sure but something about the meal she'd fixed had seemed off to him although that could have been due to how burned it was. Regardless he hadn't eaten very much of it and he hadn't said anything to Bella about it tasting bad. He rolled over in the bed, trying to relax and sleep but he couldn't. He sighed and got up to go to the kitchen and see if he could find something to eat.

He decided against grabbing his robe as he headed for the door, guessing that everyone else in the house would be in bed already since it was so late. He opened the door and almost screamed at the sudden flames that leapt up and set the hem of his pajama pants on fire, hastily muttering a charm to douse the flames before they could do any serious damage to him or his clothes. He looked down at the floor and saw the remains of the trap that had been set and a small humorless smile appeared on his face. "Rodolphus. Of course," he said softly, setting off down the hall towards the older Lestrange boys room, his plan of going to get something to eat forgotten.

He reached Rodolphus' room and started pounding on the door, not caring if he woke the rest of the house up. "Open the damn door Rodolphus," he growled.

"Maybe the intention wasn't to actually harm you but just get you upset. Like when you smack a dog in the nose with a newspaper. Make sure they know they did something wrong but without hurting a loyal pet." He kept an eye on Amycus and once he sat down he sighed and went to collect his firewhiskey from the bottom of his book shelf and two glasses. He poured a shot for each of them as he listened to Amycus' explanation.

His own imaginings? He couldn't imagine Amycus doing anything with Bellatrix if he were being honest. Whether that was because his mind simply wouldn't allow it or because he couldn't picture anyone doing anything with her that wasn't him he didn't know. He did know, though, that he needed a drink and he took his shot before holding the second out to Amycus. The clock on his wall ticked, the only sound amidst the silence of his room.

"You know," he said finally, "If we weren't on the same side of an impending war I would kill you."

Amycus raised his eyebrow at Rodolphus' comparison of what happened at his room to someone disciplining a dog. "Are you suggesting that I did something that deserved punishment?" he asked his voice deceptively mild. "I can't think of anything. All I've done is come here and then go to Bella's. Hardly anything that I think would deserve being punished," he added in that same tone, watching cautiously as Rodolphus poured the drinks.

He leaned forward slightly to accept the offered drink but didn't sip it. He'd been watching too carefully for Rodolphus to have put anything in it but he wasn't quite certain he felt comfortable drinking with Rodolphus just yet. Amycus allowed the silence to stretch between them, watching Rodolphus with that cold, blank stare he'd perfected over the years.

"You might try," he said angling his wand up slightly and pointing it at Rodolphus, just so that he'd be ready if Rodolphus made a move for his own.

"I'm only attempting to figure out why someone would want to try and set you on fire. I don't know what you do in your free time that would be worthy of a newspaper to the nose." When Amycus took the drink he leaned back into his chair and drank his second before setting both bottle and glass to the side.

Rodolphus looked tired, which wasn't surprising given the late hour and as he sat back in his chair he pulled his knees up to his chest and folded his arms across the tops. "Nah. Pretty sure I'd just do it. Simply trying but not following through seems like a waste of time."

Amycus gave a soft brittle laugh at Rodolphus' repeating his comparison of Amycus to some type of disobedient dog. "I'm not sure I like you comparing me to a dog Rodolphus," he said quietly.

He noticed the tired look on Rodolphus' face and knew that manners dictated he should finish his drink and return to his room. The only problem was that Amycus didn't feel like following the rules of manners. "If you were going to do it, we wouldn't be sitting here discussing it. You'd be doing it. Or like I said trying," he said giving Rodolphus a cold smile.

Rodolphus narrowed his eyes at Amycus when he said that, not out of anger but honest confusion and after a moment of staring he groaned and leaned back in his seat, rubbing his hand over his face. "Amy!" He crooned and unfolded himself so he could lean closer to him despite their distance and he repeated himself, very slowly, "I said if we were not on the same side I would kill you. Key words being if we were not on the same side. Since we are on the same side that means I will not try to kill you which is why I'm currently not regretting my decision against maintaining a bath tub filled with dermestes maculatus. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

The fact that Amycus refused to go into specifics about what he did with Bellatrix was more frustrating than his unwanted house guest trying to prove he was tough. He wanted to know. He also wanted to know what it was about Amycus that Bellatrix liked so much. What had they talked about? Had they talked about him? What had she said about him?

Amycus didn't even bother trying to hide the look of contempt that he knew passed over his face at Rodolphus calling him 'Amy'. "Don't you ever call me that," he hissed, furious.

It took a minute for the rest of what Rodolphus was saying to filter through his anger. "I will never understand your obsession with bugs. I don't think Bella gets it either. She found your last gift rather repugnant," he said.

The more Amycus spoke the more Rodolphus shook his head and by the end of his last claim, the eldest Lestrange was even laughing a bit. "No, no." He claimed, wagging a finger between them. "I didn't...I didn't send her anything." There was a distinct lack of conviction in his voice that grew the more that he thought about it and soon he wasn't laughing at all. He remembered the journal entry Bellatrix had made after his last owl but there hadn't been anything unusual about it. She had told him to stop and insisted it was an unwanted hassle but he refused to believe it. He still didn't believe it. It didn't matter what Amycus said about it. Nope.

He turned his head away to look up at the mountains of specimens crawling up the walls and knew claiming it wasn't him didn't serve as the foundation for a very strong case. Then his eyes fell on the skull necklace Bellatrix had given him when she'd showed up at the house with her hair combed dressed as comely as he'd ever seen her and couldn't help but smile. "They're awful. You know there is a fly that will lay eggs in a human host and when the larvae hatch they eat their way out of you?"

"She told me so herself," Amycus told him, deliberately neglecting to mention that it had been on her journal. He started to tell Rodolphus what she'd said about preferring Rabastan but stopped himself at the last minute. That would only serve to infuriate Rodolphus at his younger brother.

He hadn't even bothered with pretending to believe Rodolphus' claim that it wasn't from him. "She also told me that she wished you'd quit sending her presents. That it was Hogwarts all over again and she didn't know what to do to get you to leave her alone."

Rodolphus began to groan. He lifted his hands up to press into his eyes rubbing over them and across his forehead as he hid his face behind his knees. Was he aggravated? Depressed? Embarrassed? In short order he was laughing again before he turned in his chair for his bottle of firewhiskey. he didn't bother pouring a shot this time and instead drank straight from the bottle. "Amy, Amy, Amy!" Setting the bottle down onto his desk with a dull thud of glass on wood he rose from his chair and crawled onto his bed, closer to where Amycus had conjured himself a chair. "Tell me more? What else did she tell you about me knowing full well as soon as you left you would come right back here and report it all in detail?"

He was convinced she was flirting with him with Amycus being a convenient third party. If Bellatrix truly wanted him to leave her alone he was sure she would know how to do it. Wasn't she clever? The cleverest. But instead she wrote about it in his journal to get his attention, she manipulated Amycus to tell him this story. Her true intentions couldn't have been any more clear!

Amycus fought back the urge to laugh at what he interpreted as Rodolphus' sign of distress over what he'd just told him. At least that was how he interpreted it until Rodolphus started laughing. He held back a sigh instead draining his drink at one go and holding the glass out for a refill, not caring that Rodolphus had just drunk out of the bottle.

His eyes narrowed at Rodolphus calling him Amy again and he raised his wand, pointing it at one of the displays on the wall and muttering a quick spell. The display fell off the wall, landing on the floor with a loud crash as pieces and bugs went everywhere. "I told you not to call me that."

Rodolphus stretched way back for the bottle of whiskey but had just managed to wrap his fingers around it when he heard the sound of breaking glass. He visible flinched, his eyes scanning the walls to find exactly what it was Amycus had destroyed. The Apis mellifera - it didn't take him long to spot the vacancy. He'd finessed his stunning hex while collecting those. He'd also gotten stung about seven times.

Slowly he turned back around to face him, his expression having finally lost all of its mirth, replaced instead with thunder and lightening. "Amy." He repeated as if daring him.

Amycus couldn't help but grin at Rodolphus' flinch. He'd struck a nerve. Good.

"I'm sorry. Was that important?" he asked innocently as he flicked his wand at another display using the same spell to send it crashing to the floor.

Important wasn't really the word for it. Vital, maybe? There were few things Rodolphus loved in this world: The Dark Lord, Bellatrix Black, and his collection. The second crash of broken glass hurt him internally but he refused to turn and see what had been destroyed. He didn't want to know.

"Amy!" He said again, much louder this time and with his teeth bared.

Amycus shook his head and laughed softly. This was the most fun he'd had in a long time.

He gave Rodolphus a slow smile and flicked his wand at another display, sending it crashing to the floor. He stood up from his chair, empty glass in hand and walked over to the desk, crushing pieces of glass and bugs under his feet. He grabbed the bottle of fire whiskey and refilled his glass standing there sipping it slowly as he stared at Rodolphus.

Amycus probably shouldn't have gotten within arms reach of Rodolphus at that particular moment. He held onto the bottle of liquor so Amycus would have to tug before he released it and with his hands now empty he launched himself off of his perch and caught the other Wizard between his arms as he tacked him onto the ground.

Rodolphus had been half tempted to smash his jar of house centipedes over Amycus' head, especially since some of them were still alive, but there wasn't time to collect a weapon so he just punched him instead.

Amycus was already slightly off balance from having to tug the bottle out of Rodolphus' hand and he hit the ground hard when Rodolphus tackled him, his glass shattering on the floor.

He didn't have time to even try and block the punch that Rodolphus threw at him. His wand had flown out of his hand at the moment of impact and the only recourse left to him was punching Rodolphus. He couldn't get his arm free enough to hit him in the face so he punched him in the stomach instead. "Get off of me you tosser!" he shouted.

The number of times Rodolphus had been hit by bludgers in the stomach, the back, even the face were far too many for him to count and Amycus' punch definitely didn't hold anywhere near as much strength as the charmed Quidditch ball. A bludger had broken his arm once. He doubted Amycus could even open a blood vessel.

He growled at him, his thick fingered hands finding his throat as he squeezed. "You come into my house," he snapped at him, "where you aren't wanted! Destroy my things! Sneak off to have dinner with my...my-" he wasn't quite sure what to call Bellatrix. She wasn't his anything. "With the woman I love," he decided, "and believe you can call me your friend?"

So much for maintaining his self control!

Amycus knew that his punch hadn't carried much force behind it and he balled his fist up to try again but before he could Rodolphus' fingers were wrapped around his throat and starting to squeeze.

Amycus reached out looking for anything he could use as a weapon, his hand finally finding one of the larger pieces of glass and closing around it. He felt the jagged edges cutting into his hand as he picked it up and jammed it down into Rodolphus hand, twisting it as he did so.

Rabastan had been sound asleep when the sound of breaking glass wrenched him violently from his dreams. He sat still, waiting, but when the sounds came again he leapt out of bed and dashed down the hall, flinging open the door to Rodolphus' room and staring in horror. His brother and Amycus were on the ground, and for a second he thought they might be, er, well... But the moment he saw the blood on their hands he knew.

"S-s-stop it!" He ran over and snatched the glass out of Amycus' hand, heedless of the way it cut into his own, mingling his blood with his brothers and his best friends. "W-what are you d-d-d-doing!"

Rodolphus grimaced as Amycus stabbed him with the glass from his broken wall hangings, gritting his teeth but refusing to let go, not until he'd gotten everything he wanted out of the one beneath him, mainly the gurgling sound of desperation as he tried again and again, in vain, to collect one solid breath before he slipped into unconsciousness.

Then Rabastan broke in and put an end to everything. It was probably for the best even if he didn't immediately feel that way. With a frustrated growl, he sat back without getting off of his captive and he shook his hand, spattering his warm blood over the other's face. "Oh you know," he snarled, his tone scathing although not necessarily because of Rabastan. "Just playing!" He didn't take his eyes off of Amycus.

Amycus had tried not to react to the pain as the glass cut deeper into his hand when Rabastan jerked it away from him, but he hadn't been able to completely hide his wince. Or the relief on his face when he was finally able to breathe again when Rodolphus let go of his throat. He lay there for a minute without moving or speaking just breathing in deeply, not wanting to think about how close he'd just come to unconsciousness, or worse, at the hands of his best friends older brother. Someone he'd always considered a friend as well. Or at least he had until tonight.

He glared up at Rodolphus, ignoring Rabastan for the moment, as he reached up to wipe Rodolphus' blood off his face. "Get off me," he said, his words somewhat obscured by the sudden thickness of his Greek accent combined with the soreness from being choked.

He glanced over at Rabastan and felt a stab of guilt at the horror he saw on his friends face. "What does it look like?" he muttered, feeling a bit ashamed of himself. "Things got a little out of hand Rab. That's all," he said, hoping that Rabastan would believe him and let it go but a part of him knew that his friend probably wouldn't.

Rabastan felt like he was being torn in half. He looked between his brother (who he was finally, finally getting close to) and his best friend, the one person in the whole world he could always count on. How the Hell had this happened?

"G-get off h-him Rodolphus." He threw the glass away in disgust. "A-Amycus, g-get out of h-here. G-go back to y-your room." I'll meet you there lay unspoken but plain in Rabastans eyes. "I d-don't give a s-s-shit what you w-were fighting a-about, b-but it ends n-now." He couldn't control the infernal stutter, or the way his hands shook, but his eyes were steel and his face was hard. This ended, now.
