Severus forced himself to push away Black's thoughts, clamping down hard on his own mind to protect it from the piercing gaze and the pummelling of memories and thoughts that came crashing all around him. He finally managed to pull out of the Gryffindor's mind and he leaned back in the chair, panting heavily from the exertion. He'd never had an experience like that, nor did he expect to see the victim of those hard memories awake after that ordeal. As he'd suspected, Sirius was completely knackered out.
Shooting a look at Lupin, he watched the worry that stiffened him and Severus felt his eyebrows lowering in remembrance. The two of them? Together? The surprise in his mind was shaken away as he stood abruptly, snatching up his wand and looking back down at Black with a slightly different sort of gaze. He would rather die than admit to anyone that he was developing a sliver of respect for the boy who hadn't completely buckled under those darker memories. It was clear that the statue was placed for a reason, and the involvement of Lucius and Rodolphus... he practically snarled when he noted that the latter was now connected to two victims: Black and Lily. Severus let his mind slowly open up to his musings as the mental walls started to come down.
"Lupin, I found what I was looking for," he said quite perfunctorily, standing before the other boy in a stiff sort of stance. He was still trying to get a hold of himself after that last memory. "Make sure that he doesn't pass by the statue of the rearing centaur just outside of this common room. It was some sort of a... a plant, likely what was causing his behaviour."
Severus glanced back down at Sirius and shook his head before returning the chair to its place and heading toward the door of the dorm. "If I didn't know any better, I would swear that those Death Eaters are involved." With that cryptic comment, he steeled himself to have a good talking to Lucius. Before he turned to go, however, he gave Lupin a cocky look. "Does Potter know about you two? The werewolf and the giant dog. Quite a pair."
Not wishing to get into any further discussions on the matter after that, Severus headed back down the stairs and out of the Gryffindor common room, hoping to get back to Slytherin territories before the red and gold became imprinted on his retinas.
