James looked up around them when he heard other voices, and as quickly as he could, he helped Remus get the final edge of the cloak over Sirius and the evidence of his 'activities'. The other two hardly needed to be faced with that, even if it would help to justify his actions.
"Look, just trust me, it was either that or duelling him. He's not in his right mind; you lot've seen enough to agree with me, yeah?" It wasn't a question really as James hardened his features and looked at each of them, reserving a softer look for Remus last. James had noticed how the other boy seemed to be more attached to Sirius lately and while he didn't know the details, he felt his heart reach out to the resident werewolf more than to the others where Sirius was concerned. He was there for his almost-brother just as much as James himself always was.
"All right, let's just get out of here and we'll talk later. Wouldn't want two of Hogwarts's upstanding Prefects getting caught outside past curfew, would we?" The self-assured and fun-loving grin touched his lips before he cast a levitating charm in the vicinity of his invisibility cloak, putting a testing hand out to make sure that he'd hit his mark in order to guide them all back into the castle.
