"She was," Emma nodded. Beth had been very smart. At the mention of her future mother-in-law, Emma paled. She hadn't even met the woman yet and that made her more nervous than anything. True, she and Adrian were only a couple months in to their relationship and things had gotten a bit out of control in regards to their circumstances but Emma knew exactly what it'd be like to meet a matron of Society. It was like meeting a member of the Ton and knowing they were going to disapprove of you.
"I, ah, haven't been introduce to Mrs. Pucey," she said, worry evident. That would mean something, of course. She knew how fond Adrian was of his mother and the fact that she'd yet to meet her worried Emma. "But thank you. I've been reading books and I do have an Aunt who had twins. I just wanted to avoid Elspeth's company if it was possible." Emma wrinkled her nose. "She's a terrible gossip. I think it's because she married down and has never forgiven her husband for not having a title."
Following Lexi's gaze to Marcus and Katie, she laughed. "I can't even imagine those two procreating," she said, shaking her head. "Their poor child would likely be born on the Pitch in the middle of a time out." Of course, Emma had never seen Katie Bell with children but she knew she had a... step-niece. "Neither seem like the type to want kids."
At her mention of her ring, Emma glanced down, thumb brushing over the beautiful diamond. "I believe Ade had it made for me," she said, extending her hand and letting Lexi take a look at the intricate detail. It was soft and feminine in design. The diamond was nearly two carats. It was a beautiful piece of work. "I'm rather in love with it." Her eyes flickered to Ade, heart beating just a bit faster. "Because of the man who gave it to me, of course." Emma blushed at her words, not one to get overly sentimental. "Pardon me. It seems the pregnancy hormones have been kicking in."
