Emma smiled as she watched Lexi talk about her ring. It was pretty. She was glad that Lexi seemed to be relaxing a little bit. The tension that had been running everyone the past few weeks was dissipating and she was grateful for that. It was exhausting being in a state of chaos. "I'm glad you like it."
Thinking about Lexi's words, Emma nodded. It was true but it wasn't the same thing. There was the sadness that she wouldn't get to see her sister hold her children or all of them together watching them play. It was the inability to bond over something they'd both gone through. She and Beth had a lot in common and she did know what her sister would say. That was comforting. "Beth would tell me that I'm doing the right thing," she said, thoughtfully. Emma smiled wistfully. "She believed in doing the right thing more than I do. If you think I'm proper..." Emma sighed. "She'd tell me that Adrian loves me and that worrying about doing things out of order, while improper, doesn't change people's feelings."
Emma knew the story of Lexi's little brother and it was a terrible one. "Clint is very good with children," she said, remembering his interaction with her nephew and the compliments she'd received from the orphanage. "I'm not surprised your brother loved him."
