No, he hadn't expected a response. Had he received one, it would have done nothing to further the conversation as Adrian, himself, had nothing further to say on the matter. His control had slipped and his irritation and sarcasm had slipped through. It did, from time to time, happen. Given what had taken place and what was likely to take place, it wasn't all that surprising.
He bit his tongue when she used what had been said as an excuse. More importantly what he had said. He had a very different opinion on what was said and which parts were offensive, but he kept that to himself. Questioning his relationship with his family was not something he appreciated, whether or not they felt it was appropraite. Setting those thoughts aside, he frowned, listening to her as she continue. He was just going to argue her claim to actually know what he felt about her with some indignation, when she continued.
The frown disappeared from his face and he just stared at her. At first his thoughts had gone blank. Nothing could penetrate the silence. It lasted a moment or so before he realized what was happening and his thoughts went into overdrive. "So you left?" he asked incredulously. Not even just left, but up and left. He couldn't help wondering when she would have told him had he not shown up?
The fact that she was bloody pregnant took a moment longer to sink in. What hit him the most, was the outward ripples this would cause. He didn't want to know what his Mother would have to say about this.
