Making Plans
Who: Lily and Zania
Where: Eatzy’s Diner
When: Early evening
Lily’s shift was coming to a close and she was very much looking forward to her evening. A little drinking competition? Perfect. She was pretty confident in her skills, though it was hard to say if she really would be able to outdrink Lance or not. She hadn’t seen him pre-hung over before, so she really wasn’t able to tell how much booze he could handle.. either way, she knew it would be interesting. In more ways than one.
She tapped her foot while waiting to be covered, nails tapping against the counter as her eyes remained fixated on the door. She thought Zania would be in tonight, but she wasn’t entirely certain. Zan had graciously provided her with plenty of alcohol to last she and Lance the evening at an incredible price, something she knew she’d have to thank her for again.
Glancing around, Lily made sure no one else was in need of anything else in the last minute before she’d be out for the night.
Zania arrived just after sundown, a little earlier than she usually came in, but she had nothing going on, so she didn’t mind picking up the evening shift and staying through the night shift. I gave her the extra income she needed to get the club up and running. Plus, Clementine had said she’d come down to the diner and join her for dinner, so that would be a treat.
“Hey,” Zania smiled at Lily as she came into the main room, tying on her apron. “Hope I’m not late. How’s it going?” They hadn’t caught up in a while, mostly working passing shifts, so she’d take any opportunity to talk. “I’m going to work on setting up the club this week. You game to help?”
Lily had been so lost in her own thoughts for the moment, she hadn’t noticed Zania approaching. She jumped slightly when she greeted her, letting out a laugh. “Hey!” Her hands immediately went to her back, untying the knot of her apron. “Not late at all.” Even if Zan had been running late, Lily couldn’t really talk. After her conversation with Jack last night and the approach of the full moon, the anxiety of the entire situation had brought her very close to not making it for her shift at all. “Things are going good.” She had kept telling herself that, anyway, and she managed to keep a smile on her face for the few hours she did work today. She had even managed to distract herself with her evening plans, which provided some very temporary relief. She folded her apron, pinning it underneath her arm. “How are you doing?” Her attention immediately shifted as Zania made mention of the club, however. “Seriously? Of course I’ll help! What do you need me to do?”
“I’m okay,” Zania said, as close as she would get to saying she was a complete mess. If she could just remove all the boys from her life, and all the feelings attached to them, then maybe things would be fine. The only one who wasn’t causing havoc was Nic, and that was probably because he was her cousin, though even her brother had his own mess going on. He was a werewolf. “I was thinking you could help me get the basic painting done. I need to paint all the walls black and hang some curtains over the windows, which I finished making the other day. I need to get the guys to help me hang the lights. And as of right now, I don’t have a bar, but I know someone I can commission for one.” If she could bear to face Mickey again.
Lily could definitely handle painting. She could probably handle anything Zan asked her to do, but it'd be more of a question how well it would be done. There should be no worries with a paintbrush or roller in Lily's hand, though. "Perfect. I can be there every night, if you need me to." This didn't only prove as another great distraction, but it was also incredibly exciting. Her friend was going to have her own business up and running pretty soon, and that was something to really be proud of. "Do you have a date set in mind for the opening yet?"
“Oh, you’re awesome,” Zania said, grinning. This was what she needed, to focus on her club and the excitement that surrounded it. The nights she was working there would be so much easier to get through. “I’m hoping to have it open by Friday night, which I know is super close, but if I can pull the right people together, I think we can get it done. I’m going to recruit your brothers to help me hang the lights.” They’d managed to get them into the dome in the first place, so she knew they were strong enough to help hang them.
Lily smiled, clapping her hands together. Just like Zan needed a distraction, Lily could benefit from one as well for the next few days. “We can totally get it done by then. Let me know if they give you any trouble with the lights.” She didn’t think they would, but she could absolutely extract her sisterly rage if it was needed. “Don’t be surprised if an 80’s painting montage ensues, by the way.” Sure, the paint was black so the obnoxious colors of the decade wouldn’t apply, but she could totally belt out some tunes and rock the night away. “This is fucking exciting! Can you even believe it?”
“I’m sure I can talk them into it,” Zania smiled, hoping that they’d both be willing to help her, since she’d been just as willing to help them. Hell, she’d given Jack blood the other day. What was a little manual labor in return? “Oh, there’ll be music playing the whole time. My idea is actually to paint all the walls black and then, once that’s dry, do panels of lyrics down each wall. I want everyone who helps to pick a song and go with it,” she grinned. Maybe it was cheesy, but she liked it. “I can’t!” she laughed. “I feel like I’ve been working towards this forever. Now I can finally make it happen.”
“I love that idea, that’s so awesome!” Lily placed her apron on the counter and reached out to Zania for a hug. “I’m so proud of you, Zan.” Being able to not only realize a dream, but bring it to fruition was a major accomplishment and she had nothing but the utmost respect for her friend. “I have some plans tonight. Is it cool if I start painting tomorrow?”
Zania hugged her back, bouncing a little as Lily’s arms wrapped around her. It was nice to have someone around who shared in her excitement. “Thank you!” she grinned. “I’m thinking it’ll be open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at first, and we can work at the diner on our off days. I don’t know what kind of demand there’ll be for a club every night, so we’ll just have to see how things go.” And Justin would probably be glad not to lose two of his primary waitresses completely. She knew it was hard to replace the night shift, which was now her permanent shift. “Yeah, definitely. I work tonight anyways and I’d never send you over there by yourself. Anything fun planned?”
Lily nodded in agreement, the game plan making sense to her. She had grown so accustomed to the schedule she had here that she knew it was going to take some adjusting before she’d be used to the change of pace, but she also knew it would be more than worth it. She had a few bartending jobs prior to her life in here, and she actually missed it. “Sounds perfect.” Lily picked her apron up after their hug ended, grinning. “I’ve got a little drinking competition with this guy, Lance. Thank you again for hooking me up with some precious booze supply!”
“Oh, that should be fun,” Zania laughed, a knot forming in her gut. She wanted to tell Lily about what had happened with him, but… it was such a low point for her that she’d rather not bring it up. Instead, she said, “He was in here late last night. I fed him some pie. He can hold his liquor, by the way. He tested out my moonshine the other night.” And took it home to finish it. It was that morning that Lily had found him, passed out on his porch. All the talk last night let her put the pieces together. “You’re in for quite the competition!”
Lily’s smile dropped a little bit, the reality of other situations pushing their way to the forefront of her mind again. She wasn’t sure how well she’d be holding herself with the constant anxiety of things to come for her brother plaguing her, but she was certainly going to try. She shook her head, “he should be resting himself! I think he’s underestimating me.” She leaned casually against the counter. “If you weren’t working tonight, I’d say you should join us. Maybe we’ll swing by at some point afterwards!”
Zania noticed the slip in Lily’s smile and wondered what that was about and if she should ask. The only thing holding her back was all the secrets she had herself, if she could ask what she wanted to ask and not let her own issues get in the way. “Guys always underestimate a girl’s ability to hold her liquor,” Zania grinned. “And, sure, if you two get bored, come keep me company. You know I’m here till just before sunrise.” But never after. She needed to be home by then or else she’d be stuck at the diner all day long.
“And that’s how we kick their asses.” Lily winked then glanced across the diner for a moment as Zania’s words played across her mind. Now that she thought about it, she didn’t really see her friend out anytime other than at night.. and when they embraced earlier, she was cool to the touch. She looked back to Zan with a raised brow, but kept her mouth shut. Those could all just be coincidences, and she wasn’t about to ramble off about what her brother shared with her today if she would have no idea what she was talking about. “So, tomorrow night is a date. You, me, a bucket of black paint, and a good time.”
“Sounds great,” Zania grinned. “I’ll bring the wine.” Because it wouldn’t be a good time without a little drinking. Hopefully Lily wouldn’t be so hungover from tonight’s drinking that she couldn’t enjoy herself. And while she knew it probably wasn’t a good idea to be out on the full moon, she was sure she could keep Lily safe, should they run into any issues. Zania glanced towards the door as a couple came in and took a seat in one of the front booths. It was time to work, she supposed. “Text me when you wake up,” she said as she headed towards the table, looking over her shoulder at Lily. “Otherwise I’m going to assume you’re still passed out!”
Lily laughed, the possibility of her being down for the count very high. Really, it wouldn’t be the most terrible thing for her, being passed out and all.. but, she had given Zania her word that she would help out with the club’s set-up, so she would be there no matter what condition she was in. “Have a good night!” She called after her, peeking her head into the kitchen to bid adieu to the few others there at the moment. Scooting out the front of the diner, she walked at pace that was a bit quicker than her usual stroll home, wanting to make sure she’d be at her house in time for booze-a-palooza to begin.
