Not Scared Of You
Who: Eli and Liam
Where: Their House
When: Afternoon
Eli was dreading his conversation with Liam, but not as much as he was Audrey’s conversation with Finn. Of the two of them, he felt he got the better end of the deal. The worst that could happen with Liam was that he might run off and hide. Overall, he seemed to be pretty understanding about other things, so hopefully this wouldn’t be any different. Eli knocked on his bedroom door, then waited. “It’s Eli. Do you have a few?”
Liam was in his room, trying to organize the mess of it a little. He had a lot of things, just items that Audrey had picked up for him along their travels and things he'd managed to invest in once they'd gotten to the dome, and they were all scattered around his room pretty evenly so that while it was a spacious enough room, it looked much smaller than its actual size. Looking up at the knock, Liam went to the door and opened it, giving Eli a smile. He nodded and stepped aside, letting Eli into the room on his own.
Eli was quiet, but he had nothing on Liam. He remembered when they’d first met and Liam hadn’t spoken at all. He’d come a long way since then, but Eli doubted he would ever be loud. “You know that meeting I went to last night? It was all people who’d been attacked by wolves,” he said, taking a seat on Liam’s bed. He wanted to pick up one of the nick-knacks and distract himself, but he knew they needed to talk. He needed to stay on track. “Do you believe in the supernatural?”
Liam didn't expect this conversation when Eli came to see him tonight, but instead of balking he moved to sit on the bed facing Eli. After a long moment, he ended up nodding. There were zombies, right? They could have been caused by anything, but Liam didn't see a reason not to believe in the supernatural. Then he could also believe in things like guardian angels, right? And maybe Hayley and his mom were looking down on him, if that was the case. He ended up nodding again, more sure of himself this time, and looking back at Eli. "Why?"
“Because I’ve been given reason to believe I might be a werewolf,” Eli said, watching Liam carefully. “And a few years ago, I might have laughed at the idea, but I think they might be right.” He was just coming to accept it, even if he had no proof. Silver would probably be enough to make him sure, but the idea of burning himself just to prove it didn’t seem all that appealing.
He…definitely didn't expect to hear that. Staring at him, Liam tried to piece together his words and tilted his head a little bit, confused by it even after the word had circulated a few times. "….Werewolf?" He repeated, the word not even sounding real to him, and looked back at Eli to study his friend. He had healed…impeccably fast for someone who had been attacked by a wolf. He'd seen the injuries and how Eli had healed. "…Don't know for sure?"
Eli nodded, glad that Liam was at least voicing his questions since he couldn’t read his mind. “I don’t think I’ll know for sure until the full moon. But there were people in the group that had been burned by silver, and I can hear more than I should. And smell more than I should.” He knew it was a lot to take in, that he was now some kind of supernatural creature. “I know a guy who’s going to help me on the full moon. We’ll see what happens then. And we’ll know.”
This was…really out there. A lot of things were happening that really shouldn't be happening, but Eli? A werewolf? This was Eli. He was part of Liam's family and if Eli was a werewolf…which Liam hoped he wouldn't be because everything he knew about werewolves involved pain….but if he was a werewolf, Liam needed to figure out what that meant for everyone. For them. But something else was more important first. "…Ok?" He asked, needing to make sure Eli was safe and fine first. Eli's okay-ness was so much more important.
“I’m okay,” Eli said. “It’s a little scary because we don’t really know how the full moon will be, but otherwise I just feel like me.” With superpowers. But he was still just Eli. And right now he wished Liam would say a bit more so that he could tell what he was thinking. His silence made it so difficult to Eli to tell. “Audrey knows. I told her last night. She’s going to tell Finn for me.”
That was good. That was his next question. Nodding, Liam leaned forward and pressed his hands to his head, eventually running them through his hair. "…Crazy," He murmured, looking back at Eli. This was crazy. This whole thing was crazy. "…How do we help?"
“Yeah, I know,” Eli said in agreement. This was definitely crazy, but easier to take after the zombies. If they hadn’t had that bump into the supernatural, Eli wasn’t sure he would’ve believed it. “Right now, I don’t know. I know a guy that’s working on what we’ll do for the full moon, though, and as soon as I know, I’ll keep you in the loop. Does that work?”
Liam didn't know what else to do other than nod. He looked back at his friend and nodded more surely. "Can help," He promised. If Eil had to do things to prepare for…whatever the hell this is…then Liam wanted to help. Liam wanted to be there for Eli.
"Thanks," Eli said with the tiniest of smiles. As far as he could tell, Liam wasn't freaking out, which made this the easier of the two conversations. Then again, Liam didn't say much at all, so Eli could be completely wrong and not even know it. "I'll let you know, probably tomorrow."
Liam was…not sure how to feel about this. Right now, logically, he was just trying to make sure Eli was all right. It meant so much to him that Eli was safe, but if he had to stop and think about the fact that his friend might turn into some sort of flesh-ripping werewolf…well, Liam could already feel his heart start to kick up faster at the fear in that. He tried to calm himself again and instinctively reached for his bracelet, running his thumb over the beads there. ".....Scary."
Eli could hear his heart speed up. He could almost smell the fear on Liam, even though he didn’t know that’s what it was. There was so much more for him to take in that he didn’t know how to read it all. This was one of those times when Eli really wished that Liam would give him more to work with on words. “It is,” he agreed. “But I’m going to do everything I can to keep you guys safe. I don’t want you to be scared of me.” He knew that might not be easy, though. They’d all experienced horrors and had every reason to be scared of a potential monster.
Liam looked back at Eli, a frown on his face. “Not of you,” He said seriously, though a fleeting thought about that had passed his mind. “For you.” It was scary in general, the idea that his friend might be ripped in half and replaced by a wolf, and flashes of the way Eli had looked on that hospital bed kept coming back to Liam. He closed his eyes and sighed. “Worried.”
“Okay,” Eli said, feeling a bit better. He really didn’t want his friends to be scared of him, even if that might be a good idea. They wouldn’t know if that was the case or not until the full moon. “Yeah,” he sighed. “Me too.” But there was nothing they could do for now except wait. Wait and prepare.
