Friendship Tinted Green
Who: Skylar and Clementine
When: Afternoon
Where: Picnic
Warnings: Light language
She’d figured she’d come see Skylar at the picnic and help out with his booth if she could. She’d slept off the rest she needed to feel rejuvenated since Mannix’s visit and had spent the day knitting, working on Kenzie’s scarf, so when she’d seen Kenzie at Skylar’s booth, she figured she could just go tell her about the progress...and then she saw Kenzie kiss Skylar and it surprised her in a way she didn’t expect.
Yes, she knew they’d kissed before, but seeing it was a little different. Waiting until Kenzie left, Clementine started toward Skylar’s booth and leaned on her arms on the table of it. Her sweater slipped down over her shoulder, showing a reddened spot where she’d been bitten, but she didn’t really think of it. “Well hey there, Casanova.”
Skylar was still watching Kenzie walk away, thinking that she was trouble in the best kind of way. Then someone else was speaking and he found himself looking back blinking for a moment until he realized who it was. “Oh uhh...who?” he asked, looking around. Which one was Casanova? He was too busy thinking about being kissed and what it meant from Kenzie to really focus on what Clementine was saying.
Clementine made a face, surprised that she internally wasn’t taking it well that he was so obviously focused somewhere else. “You are? You’re kissing Kenzie in public, figured ‘Casanova’ was a nice way to tell you that.”
Skylar felt a grin slip onto his features, nodding a little. “Oh yeah. That. I don’t know what that is. It’s fun but it’s this thing...” He shrugged his shoulders and leaned on the table, watching Clementine for a minute before he noticed the mark on her shoulder. “What happened?” he asked leaning forward to admire it. That hadn’t been there when they’d slept on the couch together.
Clementine tried not to think about him and Kenzie kissing again, because she didn’t necessarily want to. She’d seen it, and even before then she knew about it from Kenzie, but she didn’t really want to think about it. “What? Oh, a friend of mine needed some blood. It’s fine.”
At first Skylar nodded along, then he thought about that. That wasn’t right. “Wait...what?” he asked. “That seems weird. Why would someone need blood?”
Clementine shrugged. “It’s really nothing to worry about. He needed blood, so I offered. I figured I had enough to spare some and it would suck if he went hungry.” It wasn’t exactly how it had gone down but Clementine had started that offer with those intentions.
Skylar made a face, not sure what that meant. “Hungry?”
Clementine watched Skylar and tilted her head a little, wondering if she should tell him. Maybe if she kept Mannix’s name out of it, it would be fine? Leaning closer, she looked up at Skylar. “Do you know there are vampires here?”
Skylar leaned in when she did, feeling like there might be a secret. “Vampires? Like the movies?” he asked. That seemed a little ridiculous.
“Sort of. Really they’re just like you and me except they don’t eat anymore, just drink blood. It’s not really that big a deal. But, I figured if I was a vampire, I would like it if someone offered and I didn’t have to steal blood all the time, you know? So I offered.”
“So you offered?” Skylar asked, not sure how he felt about that. “I don’t think...that doesn’t sound healthy.” He reached out to touch the edge of the mark, frowning a little.
“Well...we regenerate the blood, you know? It’s not like it doesn’t get replenished. And he made sure I had orange juice after. And...really, if you go into it willingly, it is...actually pretty damn awesome,” Clementine said, looking down at his hand as he touched her mark. “It’s ok. It doesn’t really hurt, just a little tender.”
“He?” Right, that part had Skylar feeling less than amused. “I guess it does, but not like overnight,” he reminded her. He touched it gently again, watching her skin. “Awesome how?”
"Yeah, he. I said 'He' earlier…" She pointed out, trying not to sound smug, but she thought she heard a hint of something in his voice that she'd felt in herself when she'd seen him with Kenzie. "It's just…it's relaxing," she said, hoping he'd catch the gist of her tone so she wouldn't have to spell it out.
“Yeah but...you didn’t make that face about things being awesome earlier.” Skylar frowned and pulled back a little. “I’ve got my own way of relaxing. I’d rather keep the things that are supposed to be in me, in me.”
Clementine watched him and frowned a little, trying to make his words make sense. “What do you mean, I didn’t make this face earlier…” She straightened her back and just watched him, still trying to piece together this chill she felt between them.
“Just like...you really dug it.” Which was weird for him to be so upset about though upset wasn’t the right word. Just put off by it.
“It’s a thing that happens, apparently. When you offer or are willing or whatever.” Clementine was so confused by this. He hadn’t felt this cold toward her ever and she just didn’t understand. “Are you pissed at me or something?”
Was he? Skylar didn’t think so. He just shrugged and tucked his hands in his pockets. “You can do whatever you want you know?” What right did he have to feel like he wasn’t okay with her being a snack for a vampire? Probably not much.
“But you seem pissed. I was helping a friend out,” Clementine said, frowning a little more as she watched him. “Where did this attitude come from?” She didn’t get it. She wasn’t pissed at him for kissing Kenzie. Or...at least she didn’t think she was, but he seemed real annoyed that she’d let Mannix bite her.
“Yeah but…” he started, but didn’t have an end to it. “I don’t know. It just...bugs me.” And Skylar had no idea why.
“Well..stuff bugs me too but you don’t see me coppin’ an attitude at you about it,” She said, crossing her arms over her chest. Except maybe now..
“I didn’t cop...what?” he asked. That was confusing. “What bugs you?”
“I don’t know, Sky. It’s not a big deal or anything...just...whatever,” She said, sighing as she shrugged. “Do you still want some help tonight?” She’d come here to buy some pot and then help him with the booth but right now it didn’t feel like he even wanted her here so why should she stay?
“I mean...yeah, but you don’t have to.” He had the feeling she didn’t want to be there either. But it did feel like a big deal. Some vampire was just sucking her blood and it was awesome? No thanks.
She frowned a little more and shook her head, only sighing after a moment. “If you need help, I’ll stay.” She was mostly just confused, though, and a little pissed that he didn’t seem to realize he sounded judgmental in the first place.
Skylar shrugged one shoulder then would up shaking his head. “Product’s not really moving,” he said shrugging.
Clementine made a face and then shook her head again. “You know what, fine. Have fun being here by yourself. Don’t be such a jerk next time!” She said, giving Skylar a glare before she started to turn toward the exit.
“I am not…” Skylar started but she was gone. He rolled his eyes and slunk back. Running his hands through his hair he considered leaving all together. Instead he just dropped into the chair he’d brought and scowled. How had that gone so wrong?
