Still Not Friends
Who: Darcy and Avery
Where: Avery and Fiona's place
When: late afternoon
Darcy didn't want to untangle herself from Noah or abandon packing, but Avery called needing a few of her things and as much as Darcy didn't want to, her cousin had been through a trauma. There wasn't any way that Darcy could say no. So she threw a few things into a bag from Avery's room and headed over to her new place. It was part of why Darcy was busy packing up her own things having been told in no uncertain terms that if Avery was moving out, Darcy was moving in with Patrick. That was annoying but considering everything she didn't protest it. Being in the house alone didn't sound fun at all. Not with everything that had happened.
She waited at the door after knocking, nervous that this might not go well. The last thing she wanted to do was make things worse for Avery.
Avery was in a decent mood, she supposed. She'd at least had some company when Devin came by, and who would have known that a conversation full of snark with a cute boy would have brightened her mood. She was contemplating that when Darcy knocked on the door. Avery had a feeling it was her cousin and she sighed softly to herself before slowly getting up from the sofa to walk to the door. The last thing she wanted to do was fight with Darcy, so she was hoping she could just take her things, thank her cousin and then let that be that. Pulling open the door, Avery managed a small smile and then stepped back for Darcy to come inside if she wanted to. "Hey. Thanks. I'd have had Fiona get them, but she's already been running around non-stop..."
Darcy had been looking back behind, considering leaving the bag at the door, just avoid a confrontation. But then Avery was there and letting her in so she had nothing better to do than go with her. "Not a big deal. Noah needed more sleep and I was just packing up my stuff." Plus Fiona wandering in meant Darcy and Noah could have been caught in enjoying one another which had been pretty often since he'd shown up at her house.
Avery reached out for the bag Darcy had, just so get cousin wouldn't have to hold it any longer. "How is Noah?" Avery asked, taking the bag with her back to the couch where she sat. She had heard about the people going missing after waking up in the hospital, and she had been told Noah was one of them.
"Alive," Darcy said at first with a smile. Alive and in love with her. "His face got beat up on, but he's mostly okay. Just shook up. How're you?"
That was a relief. She still considered Noah a friend, even if they hadn't talked much. Maybe she would send him a text a little later. Seeing the bag to the side, Avery released a breath and relaxed before shrugging. "Alive," she said. What could she really say? Being held captive, being stabbed and dealing with dehydration...Avery was probably not okay on a variety of levels, but Darcy wasn't someone she could talk to about that. She wasn't even sure Darcy would care. "Finds told me your moving in with Patrick?"
"Alive is a good start," Darcy said because it was erred than dead or in a hospital. "At least you're home." She shrugged a little. "Yeah. They won't let me live alone and he seemed like the best choice. He won't like Noah, but whatever."
"He will," Avery said, because Noah wasn't a dick. Patrick might be protective, but he wouldn't dislike Noah unless Noah gave him a reason to. Not that Avery was overly concerned with it. Patrick already knew she and Finn had broken up. And Avery hadn't seen or heard from Finn since then. That wasn't something she wanted to give much thought too.
Darcy half smiled. "I hope so...he...he said..." She fumbled over the words, not sure what to say about Noah saying he loved her. "I guess i don't want to be away from him."
Avery was cynical enough at that moment to want to roll her eyes, but she knew that wouldn't have been nice. "So why don't you move in with Noah?" She asked, shrugging again before scratching idly at the bandage around her wrist.
Darcy opened her mouth then shut it. Why didn't she? She had a good guess why. Noah hadn't wanted to. "It's too soon for that," she said. "And no one even asked if I was okay when you went missing. Feels like I'd be more of a pain in the ass if I stick around."
"So stick around and be a pain in the ass then." If Darcy wanted to drive Patrick crazy, that wasn't Avery's problem. Better Patrick than her. Avery drew her brows together in mild confusion. "What does no one asking if you were okay when I went missing have to do with living with Noah?"
Darcy shrugged. "I was with Noah. No one even realized I was gone. I'm worried if I move out you'll all forget about me." It hard hurt, the way no one had asked. No one had worried. Maybe Aidan but she'd been with him.
Avery was sure there were family texts going around after it was discovered that she and Eily were gone, but she also knew that it had probably been chaotic enough that certain family members weren't thinking rationally. "I doubt that means they didn't care," Avery said dryly. "I mean, as far as I know, you didn't bother coming to see me in the hospital after they found me," she pointed out. "Does that mean you didn't care?"
Darcy gave her cousin a look. "I was there. You were asleep. And I hadn't found Noah yet. I had to get back out there." She shook her head. Avery didn't get it, but Darcy wasn't going to go into it.
Avery made a noise in her throat, but really sure she even believed Darcy. But it didn't matter. It would figure that Darcy would focus on the fact that no one supposedly checked on her over the fact that people were actually missing and could have been dead. "Well whatever," Avery said. "Everyone is alive and fine. Time to move on."
God Avery was awful. "Yeah. Fine. I should get back to moving. And you should rest." Darcy clapped her hands together like she was done with things. "Let me know if you need anything else or homework or whatever." She took a step towards the door, ready to just get away.
Avery knew she was being awful, but strangely enough, she didn't even care. Maybe the complete and utter shittiness of the last week had done something to her. She just had enough of caring about... well, everything. "I'm fine," Avery said dully. "But thanks."
"Sure thing," Darcy said letting herself out before glancing back. "Glad you're okay," she said before leaving.
Avery gave Darcy a thumbs up, only relaxing again when the door closed behind her. Near death was apparently not going to change the fact that she and Darcy didn't get along. She exhaled and closed her eyes, thinking maybe it was time to sleep.
