NAME: Daniel Draper NICKNAME: Danny (by old friends, family) D.O.B.: April 1, 1981 PB: Paul Bettany
TYPE: Human, touch-tell (post-cognitive association with objects). Though there’s no confirmation of it, this ability seems to have kicked off after a traumatic brain injury (TBI) during childhood.
APPEARANCE: 6’3”, lean, blonde hair, blue eyes, pale skin, freckles. Clothes are practical and well-worn. Summer wardrobe includes jeans, cargo shorts, and t-shirts. Winter wardrobe includes carpenter pants and thermals. Most of his clothes have small tears or stains from his work. He’s often sunburned and sweaty. Southern accent.
PERSONALITY: Daniel is loyal but cautious. He’s a romantic at heart but cynical about the practicality of love and trust. He’s been an indirect witness to happiness and pain, which has left him torn over the nature of people. He leads a simple, uncluttered life. He has a black Lab. He has no tolerance for bullshit or lies because the truth always comes out. He is stubborn. Any anger or frustration are vented verbally or through exercise as opposed to physical confrontation. He has mixed feelings towards his ability (at times avoidant, at times trying to trigger it).
STRENGTHS: Common sense. Good general health (he’s a runner). As a skilled laborer who completed apprenticeships, he can find work, though it doesn’t always pay well. Post-cognition allows him to hold objects and psychically sense past events. This works best if there’s a strong memory associated with the object (ex. touching a wrecked car provokes memory of the accident). This can be used to great advantage for information-finding. Because he developed a special ability (and because that gift has shown him terrifying things), he has awareness of the supernatural.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS: Moody. Sensitive. Hesitant to delve into someone’s life because of what he might find. Is often faced with a choice of whether to admit when he knows something or hide it. People who know about his abilities might worry about privacy. Post-cognition is often involuntary so it can’t be turned off and can only rared be used on purpose. It only works with past events; he can’t see into the future. This ability can be exploited (to hurt him or to find out information). Long-term complications from TBI include loss of peripheral vision and some hearing on his right side.
PROFESSION: Carpentry, antique restoration, works at Southern Charm (in Honfleur).
HOBBIES: Fishing, working outdoors, seeking connections with other people with supernatural gifts
BIOGRAPHY: Daniel was born in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia in 1981. He was the eldest of two children, having a sister (Mia) born when he was 14. His father Donald was a simple man who worked construction and spent downtime close to home. His mother, Jennifer, worked in residential real estate. She had aspirations of wealth and social status, and dreams of her husband returning to school and becoming a contractor, which never panned out. All of this led to a nasty divorce with Donald taking primary custody while Jennifer relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The children visited her for summers.
Aside from the typical concerns brought on by divorce and a middle class budget, Daniel was a normal kid, though gawky and emotionally sensitive. His life changed significantly when he was fifteen. Daniel followed his father onto the roof of their neighbor’s house to watch a repair. He slipped and struck his head on the concrete driveway. He spent a few weeks in the hospital while the bruising and swelling on his brain were relieved. The obvious long term effects were a loss of peripheral vision and partial hearing on his right side. Not-so-obvious was the development of extrasensory perception, a secret Daniel has kept from everyone except his sister and a few close friends. This gift has estranged him from his mother (he has gotten insights into her personal life that he doesn’t care for).
Appreciation for his father’s work ethic and a healthy respect for old things led him a two-year degree at a technical school in New Orleans and apprenticeships with carpenters and experts in furniture restoration.
HOBBIES: Fishing, antiquing in New Orleans, researching paranormal events.
