SO! Some changes may be in order!
Thank you all, those of you have been playing lately! It does my heart good!
Lai and I have been discussing some changes for around Here that will hopefully return the Manager and bring an end to the Skrull plot. This will be gradual at first...the management may start strongly urging residents to take jobs around Here. The winter season is fast approaching, and those of you who were here last year know that the change of season comes very quickly.
Now, for the fun part!
The Manager had some fail safes in place, in case anything ever happened and control was taken from him against his will, or circumstances changed beyond his control.
The barriers between Here and the outside are going to fall.
You see, long, LONG ago, Here was created as a refuge for the people of a world that was having some seriously catastrophic events happening. It was created as a sort of ultimate bomb shelter... If any of you have seen The Truman Show, it's sort of a self-encapsulated world like that... but without the creepy television show aspect of it. Everything is engineered to preserve the way of life of the people who live there, as much as possible. Groups of the original inhabitants each used a chaos cube to flee from the dying world, not sure how long that their 'bomb shelter' would last. They would take their chances in other inhabitable worlds.
Eventually, the cubes became lost or were discarded, and others stumbled upon them. Not knowing what they were, unsuspecting people would find the puzzles and reactivate them by reassembling them--the homing signal inside brought the cubes back to their point of origin--along with anyone/thing touching it. Because Here continues to be populated, the Management continues to uphold its primary objective and protect and provide for the people who live in Here.
Now that the Skrulls have breached the barriers at a time when they were weakest (the meteor shower when all power was lost), and the Manager is not around to follow protocols and, well, manage Here, things will begin to break down, because the place itself will is interpreting the lack of services and direction as a sign that the inhabitants no longer need a refuge from the outside.
Now, seeing as the catastrophe that originally necessitated Here to control climate, seasons, maintenance and the rest happened eons ago, there is no real danger to the residents--at least not from the atmosphere. What they will find beyond the barrier is a somewhat overgrown landscape with long crumbled buildings...and a contingent of Skrulls in their base camp with the captive residents in suspended animation.
There's going to need to be a fight, and so pups with powers, fighting skills and the will to kick ass will get a chance to cut loose. The Skrulls will be defeated (we're still hammering out the hows of that, though we have ideas), and the Manager will be reinstated, for the most part. However, irreparable damage will have been done to the barriers, and some of the basic functions of the place will be screwed up permanently. We are still hammering out the details there, too.
The Skrulls will have some technology that may prove very useful to residents (to be determined) and we MAY have a way to send some pups home, but not all at once and there will be conditions OOC-ly for this.
What we hope to accomplish by the time this is done is to make the game more interesting, a bit more flexible, and give people an opportunity to explore their characters and the area a little more than has previously been possible.
Thoughts, ideas and suggestions will all be heard out, though no promises will be made to anyone regarding them at this time. We welcome all ideas, but it's best if you put them in writing, so they won't be forgotten in the shuffling around. If you aren't comfortable presenting your ideas in the comments here, you can email the mods.
This won't all be taking place all at once, and probably won't come to any sort of conclusion until after the New Year, just so we can be sure to get it right and dot all of our "I"s and cross our "T"s. The FAQ will need to be redone, and so we ask for patience, ideas and input as we work to implement all of this.
