Lavi grinned at Albel's shock at hearing his own words repeated back to him. Having an eidetic memory didn't help him to learn conjugations or grammar or anything else about how to construct a sentence, but it certainly meant that he would never screw up a word he'd already learned. And speaking as many languages as he already did meant he had a broad range of sounds available to him.
They played 'name that object' for a while, then Lavi started running through easily demonstrated verbs and other words. This was far from the first time he'd ever learned a new language, and he knew what the most important and most easily conveyed concepts were. He didn't allow himself to be at all impatient with Albel's fumbling or occasional memory lapses; he couldn't expect everyone to have the memory of a Bookman.
By the time he realized he was yawning, he was able to communicate with Albel in at least a rudimentary fashion, and Albel had picked up a bit more English than just 'not'. "Mmm. Tired," he introduced a new concept, and yawned again. "Sleep?" He'd learned that verb in Elicoorian already.
